Heard thru the Coconut Wireless that the 3 year statute of limitations on unpaid vehicle registrations is no more.
Went to DMV yesterday and asked the clerk who confirmed that they are not limited to collecting only 3 years in back taxes.
So better be sure the tax is paid up on any vehicle you buy. FYI
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

I can't say that I agree with this. The proper procedure should be to let a new owner register a vehicle for only the cost of the new registration. And collect back taxes from the old owner when they need to renew their license.

I'm with you on that terracore. The buyer gets stuck holding the bag. I was aware of this, but didn't know there was a limit on how many years they can nail you with. And what about someone that wants to take a vehicle off the road for a few years to rebuild or restore it? Seems like a harsh law.

If a vehicle is not being used you don't have to register it. You can take the plates in and the registration clock stops. It starts again when you go get your plates back.

Also, I believe you can determine how much is due to register a vehicle by going to
https://mvr.ehawaii.gov/renewals/index.h...nty=hawaii
You will need the license plate # and the last 4 of the VIN.
