If Tepco has been "criminally negligent" with their environmental impact, what does that make HELCO? How about all those coal-fired plants on the mainland?
Burning stuff to make power will eventually poison the planet. It just happens that the radioactive kind shows its effects much sooner than coal (or diesel, or oil, etc).
The government will make sure that these "job creators" do not suffer "burdensome" regulations on their pollution.
Media will report very "gently" on the horrible side effects of the "energy industry". (Only the catastrophic failures are really covered, because it's still sad when people die.)
A few individuals point out the glaringly obvious probems, but they are quickly labeled "crackpot" or "doomsayer".
I'm pretty sure this planet is past the tipping point. Enjoy what you can, while you can.
