Buying in Leilani Estates

So im getting ready to make an offer on a few lots in Leilani estates. Just wondering if anyone here is located there and if you can tell me your opinions.

I was really hoping for something more country, but my wife really liked it there. So we all know who won that discussion. But over all i felt very comfortable there. I like it's location and it seems fairly quiet and safe.

What are your thoughts.
The lots are located on North Hookupu street.

Leilani, as compared to other subdivisions, has more positives than negatives. But there are some of both.

Assume the best and ask questions.

Nice subdivision in a very poor location -- I think the HPP management drama might be less of an issue than LZ1 and PGV.

PGV just isn't an issue, unless you buy on maybe, Hinalo St. The top(west and south) portion of Leilani is miles away from the plant.

"Leilani Estates is located entirely on Kilauea's lower east rift zone, and the next eruption in this area could start within, or immediately adjacent to, the subdivision. The most recent lower east rift zone eruptions were in 1955, when one of the vents erupted lava along the southernmost boundary of Leilani Estates, and in 1960, when lava inundated the village of Kapoho.

There is evidence of eruptive vents both north and south of Leilani Estates. But, unfortunately, many of the volcanic features indicative of the active rift zone—craters, cinder cones, steaming vents—are disguised by lush vegetation or have been removed by quarrying or grading, which leads to a false sense of security.

The concern is that when—not "if"—the next eruption occurs on Kilauea's lower east rift zone, active vents and lava flows will directly impact Lelani Estates, and will do so for as long as the eruption continues. Thus, the Zone 1 designation for the subdivision is appropriate.

yep, lava zone 1. you gotta come to terms with that first. but if that's okay with you, then leilani is a cool place. it is what it is.

Leilani is a nice place,but look at the USGS maps to see what is under the green.

Or maybe it won't happen. I lived there over 15 years, never got burned by lava. I even had fire ins. for a few years before I realized it wasn't cost effective.

Hey, why not buy one of the lots I am selling if you want to be safer geologically and around the most advanced homes in HPP. We have three lots and two completed homes, the only fully alternative materials, ground-up sustainable solar homes in HPP. A good part, midway between the major roads, close but no ocean saltspray.
