I have seen bulldozing and I wonder what are the other ways to clear the cane grass to nice up the lands with tropical fruits nuts and native forests? is there a mower that can do the job, or can you bulldoze with the blade up to just knock it down then keep it mowed? it would seem like a nice mulch could be made out of it if it could just be laid down instead of bulldozed into piles. burning seems great but too risky. PLEASE ADVISE ME WITH YOUR EXPERIENCES. thank you very much

Canegrass is on my short list of exceptions to "no herbicide", and I've had to use Crossbow because it will grow back from Roundup...

First I collect all the canegrass in my mulching lawnmower bag, it's fabulous mulch when layered to prevent reseeding. Then I lay a piece of weed mat or any black plastic material on top and forget about it for a while and mow around it. Cardboard works too.
A friend at the Ag Dept tells me Albizzia leaf is another amazing mulch. The little green leaves dry up fast turning into instant nitrogen fertilizer.

I can tell you from experience that simply mowing cane grass will not kill it. I have patches on my property that I have been mowing for over 7 years and they are still there. Since they are not in an important area I just keep them mowed, but they do grow 4x faster than the regular grass you you have to keep an eye on it and make sure that it does;'t get out of control. They only way to actually get rid of cane grass is to dig or scrape up ALL the roots (and I mean ALL) or to use poison.
That being said, I also know a couple of folks out in the bare rock fields of Kalapana that have been harvesting cane grass and composting it to make soil. They say it's excellent.

Hmmm...might be more prolific to go into feed and mulch business instead of clearing for orchard depending on how much you have. Good "dirt" is hard to find and cattle ranchers might be interested in "sweetening" their beef cattle.

I was trying to get a donkey from Donkey Rescue but they turned me down because my property wasn't fully fenced in. I couldn't have responsibly accepted one since I never there anyway.

If you cut it very short once or twice a week over a period of at least a few months, it will die. The constantly cut grass blades won't have a chance to absorb enough sunlight to keep the root ball alive.
However, once the Cane grass is dead, you will have created a "vacuum" and other vegetation will quickly move in.
