I just can't see paying that kind of money for internet access. 80 bucks a month for 10 gigs? I dunno, I guess after they build the new tower down in Hawaiian Beaches (att) there is no way I could get those speeds. I'm lucky to get 3G 2 bars at best. I don't mind to pay 45 a month for unlimited everything on cell phone but twice that for just data? I guess I'm missing the value here. I hate data caps.
If I gotta get in my car to find a decent signal I might as well drive to a coffee shop or McDonald's ... 80 bucks will buy a lot of coffee.
But there must be some people that think this is a good deal since they wouldn't just offer it if no one was buying.

Unfortunately, if it's your only option...

My brother said he saw the LTE symbol on his phone yesterday when he passed through Kona. Any one else see this?

I called the cut in line direct phone number for Net10, Trac Phone and StraightTalk 800-876-5753
and asked them if I really do need to wait for my LTE sim card. He apologized and said that it
does not work for me because they have not configured it on there end for my line yet.
He immediately configured it for me and I rebooted to see the LTE icon on the my phone screen.
For about the last 2 years in Puna I have been getting
3,000kbps to 6,500kbps down and 1000kbps up.
Something changes this last 2 months I have only been getting
2,000kbps to 3,000kbps down and 1000kbps up.
Now at my house on 38th St and Pohaku Dr with the LTE icon showing AT 7:30pm Sunday night I just got
4,435 to 6,959 down and 3,052 up. Not bad considering its rush hour on line and I would only expect about 2,000 down.
Our other phone is my wifes skyrocket phone which is not configured for LTE yet because our sim card is to old so we will have
to wait for the LTE sim to show up $7 + free 3 day Fed X shipping. She got
7,831 down and 1,023 up. Thats higher then I have ever seen on the download side for AT&T on the Big I.
On the other hand when we arrived at home at 7:30 which was a few minutes later she got
2,406 down and 1,031 up.
I will do some tests when rush our is over and report back what top speed can be reach for my location.
I wonder how LTE will affect my battery. It is supposed to give better battery life provided you have a
strong signal so your phone does not have to look for it all the time.
In conclusion all I can say for sure it that the upload speed has tripled with LTE.
Preliminary tests show my download speed is better as well.

There must be some sort of throttling or a bottle neck that will not
let us go over 8,000 because LTE is certainly capable of 3 times that.
After all this testing I have decided our new LTE is a tiny bit faster download then our old HSPA+ was.
But it is twice as fast as our current HSPA+ that we got when they diverted the bandwith to the LTE system. We did gain 3x faster upload speed.
My 5:00AM test 2nd floor by window was about the same as in the house.
Download 7.11Mb/s or in in kbps its 7,280.64 Kbps.
Upload 2.74Mb/s or in in kbps its 2,805.76 Kbps.
