No problem, Hikatz. Comet ISON is a difficult one to observe from ground-based observatories simply because it appears close to the sun. It's not impossible and there are plenty of observations of it from the ground, but the Hubble Space Telescope definitely has an advantage for this comet!

And yes, definitely agree, the gallery is just jaw-droppingly stunning - http://hubblesite.org/gallery/album/

This is a great link! Thank you, Tom. Hikatz, appreciate the NBC link, too.

This kind of sharing of information is so educational amidst the day to day norm. It is akin to "stop and smell the flowers" in some respect. Mahalo. JMO.

P.S. 7th grade mo'opuna got an A- on his science report (Mauna Kea was the topic) utilizing some of the information gleaned from Tutu & Punaweb [Big Grin].

Thank you for telling us! Of course I don't know what was in the report, but it's so nice to get feedback and to know kids are being encouraged to get into science and that some of the science being done on the island might be having an impact on that. And maybe even Punaweb!

The video below mentions in far grater detail the following paragraphs.
I hope this is nothing, but the fact that they closed the Air force Space Surveillance System , because of the sequestration (forced budget cuts in various federal projects), has me a little concerned .
Apparently asteroids , rocks , etc are already hitting the earth from where Ison plowed through an asteroid field and scattered them all over . Here is the u tube that has a decent talk on these subjects.

I believe this (could) be very important info.
Hopefully , Tom , is right, and this won't be a big deal.

Also , this is video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hOhq0vHf...5nP2xzFTWQ should be seen for little talked about stuff that is happening to the earth .

How does a simple conversation about astronomy become so messed up? Thank you to TomK for his great information. Looking forward to hopefully seeing Ison in a couple of weeks if it survives the sun.

Opihikaobob,

I know you feel strongly about getting the word out and warning us of impending disasters, conspiracies and NWO.
A suggestion, when you reply to a topic just give your website with the note, if anyone is interested in alternative news and opinions on this subject, they can find the links on your blog.

NASA has a web page for viewing realtime images and video of Comet ISON's close encounter with the sun on Thanksgiving if you get bored of football and don't fall asleep from the turkey. Have a nice Thanksgiving!

The very latest updates indicate that the comet is producing much more dust than previously while molecular emission is significantly reduced. This might indicate the nucleus is breaking up although it's a bit early to say. We should know more in the next couple of days hopefully, but the news may not be good for comet observers. We'll see.

For a local perspective on viewing the comet, Andrew Cooper's blog is always worth a a read - http://darkerview.com/wordpress/ - he's an engineer at the Keck Observatory and keen amateur astronomer and astrophotographer.
