We're on our Own as far as Safety on this Island

"We're on our own as far as safety on this island."

This is the KITV report where this "quote" is seen:

How true is this statement?

I don't know how true that statement is in terms of the island. But as for places like Puna and Ocean View, you just might be at a greater chance of being "on your own." I'm sure Waiakea Uka, Kaumana or even Panaewa for that matter would not feel like this statement applies.

Jun is one courageous citizen in taking on the shield called HPD. Obviously someone dropped the ball with crimestoppers. Even worse, making a statement about not having a record of Jun's call certainly gives the case a little more stink. This could be a costly lesson for Big Island tax payers.

wow, just wow. It's like a fire dept not showing up to put out a house fire, just let it burn...

I would love to hear an official response from "Crime Stoppers or HPD on this one.

HPD does have their problems with staff from time to time as seen here.

Well again being from here none of this surprises me. I have known Jun for over 15 years now and I know he did what he should have by calling the info in. Why was the tip ignored was completely Hawaii police and crime stoppers not doing the job they are getting HIGHLY paid for. To me this is yet another reason we can not trust our own police or there efforts. Are we really to think the police diligently looked for the phone records that Jun may have called a month earlier? Or that those records were lost? This really is disturbing to me for a few reasons, Jun has rented out one of my places in the past. Great man who is a fantastic father and he will stand up for the right reasons. This is more reasons why we need to clean house of all of our boys in blue, downsize their staff and pay and special privileges. Once this has been done maybe then they can try and build the trust within the community again. My heart goes out to those KIDS who are now fatherless here because of this action that could have been prevented. Why are so many happy with the current police department? What have they been able to do outside of catching the most dangerous criminal this island ever saw in ROGER CRISTIE?. I would also like to say sorry in advance to the Johnson and Royal families, for they have to rely on our finest and prey for Justice that has a high probability that will never come. I have been ripped off at least 4-6 times over the last 20 years of belongings, have I once called the police NO. There just as likely to show up at your door and Shoot you in your kitchen if you call for them. The people of this area have been caught in a drug War since 1983 when Green harvest took some of our more abusive cops and flew them regularly over this community until -- well there still doing this TODAY. That has been the main focus for our police and county now for 30 years, the dope brings them grants, funds, confiscations, bail amounts, ect ect. As for Roger he will stay until this county figures out how to get their hands in what his business use to be. I would guess a dispensary will open again here, last a year or two then get slammed by our finest. There are probably programs now built into the department who obtain information ILLIGALLY then re-write it or resubmit it so it looks like they got this info legally to be shown in places like court. I am not exaggerating about being shot in your own kitchen either cause that happened just down the road from me years ago. Hard to forget the wife of that man telling me she only called the cops in hopes to scare her husband not kill him. Sorry Jun, may lessons be learned you would not be feeling such a burden now or have such a heavy heart if you had other options than you did. you did all and MORE than most.

a good dog will go a long way to save one from the crazies, cops and criminals - and keep the religious wing nuts at bay as a bonus - grin

note that most over the top crime on this island seems to be between folks who "know" each other - choose your friends wisely

There are many good cops in the force. That being said, there are many incompetent and under trained people working in the Hawaii county government. Sounds to me like Crime stoppers was not taken very seriously by whoever was put in charge. Again, this has potential to be very costly for the Big Island taxpayers.

It's just money -- taxpayers have plenty more, no problem.
