Final East Side Saddle Road Phase
#11
I find it somewhat difficult to sympathize with landowners fighting progress when that progress will be of substantial benefit to them.

If I had tens of acres, and the State wanted to run a highway through it, thereby creating valuable frontage ... I would trade the right-of-way for some official cross-street stubs.

A huge piece of Ag land is less "valuable" than a subdivision -- remember, the name of the game is "highest and best use", right?

Midnight Rambler, do you have any suggestions where I can get GIS view of these parcels in question ? I checked the Hawaii Property Tax and County websites and the maps showing where these parcels are leave a lot to be desired.

I found a way to get the GIS data via this website http://maps.hawaii.gov/LUDfinder/ . Thanks again for the TMK #. Its given me further enlightenment regarding this right of way acquisition issue.

If you have software (and there are several freeware GIS programs like MapWindow (http://www.mapwindow.org/; search for freeware GIS for others), the state also has GIS shapefiles available for download here (TMK maps are under "Cadastral and Land Descriptions"):

ETA: forgot to add the link

Midnight Rambler, the county updated the hawaiipropertytax.com website to include GIS data and aerial views of the TMKs #. They've significantly increased the usefulness of this website.

I heard a completely different rumor where State has already released funding, but there's some dispute with the contractor about pavement width, with contractor still cashing the checks while the argument drags on.

Not sure if this is "accurate" but it certainly fits the "business as usual in Hawaii".

This is an image of how the final east side Daniel K. Inouye Highway alignment is slated to look like. I highlighted the three landowner's properties, who refuse to convey part of their land for this highway.

Aaron, is there a chance that you could redue the map and show the existing road as it is now? I really don't understand the map you posted.... but I'm old!!!

This map includes the existing Saddle Road and the realigned Saddle Road between m.m 5.3 and m.m 11.
