Not Hawaii related, but asking for suggestions
#51
Hi Cheerio, sorry for not answering earlier, I didn't want to further bore others with non-Hawaii stuff. Yes, we had breakfast at the Green Salmon on our last morning in Yachats (and very nice it was too!), and we did briefly visit Cape Perpetua although we were running out of time so it was a short visit (we were in Yachats for only two nights). We stayed at the Ocean Cove Inn which I highly recommend and also visited The Drift Inn, Heidi's, Yachat's Underground Pub and Grub and the Luna Sea Fish House while I also got a chance to take some nice pictures of the area (e.g., the blow holes) although the weather was a little grey. Not a bad word to say about any of those places and the wonderfully friendly people of Yachats - it's definitely a place we'll visit again, and for much longer next time. Pam even got most of her Christmas shopping done there after a very kind store owner offloaded half her store on us for just a few dollars!

Happy to read this, Tom. I spent much of my young life in Lincoln City and Neskoin Bay, but also near Yachats (family owned land and a cabin on the beach side of 101 near Yachats). Welcome back!

We enjoyed Lincoln City, Nana. Stayed at the Starfish Manor, a very nice and romantic hotel above the beach at the north end of the town, and on one evening had dinner at The Bay House. It's not often I spend $200 on dinner for two (including drinks!) but have to say it was one of the best evenings ever and it was a special occasion. That restaurant knows how to treat you well, a real magical place. Still figuring out how to pay it off though...

Hi Tom,just reading up on this and sounds great!

I'd recommend also:

Sebastopol - happiest people in the world.
& Calistoga (nearby the petrified forest)
& Willits - all in Cali.

And in oregon I absolutely loved seeing the Gorge with the colombia river winding through and the beautiful waterfalls nearby especially multanomah! - breathtaking area with enchanting views.

In Washington I fell in love with Olympia and really the whole Olympic peninsula.

So lucky you are to visit such fabulous places!

That aside, I always thought Crescent City was sort of an odd place.

I look forward to hearing about your future trips those are lands I miss.

Thanks, Jim. We also really loved northern California and it's a place I want to visit again, but right now just not the same appeal as the Oregon coastal towns. Gualala was wonderful though (anyone visiting the area - Seacliff on the Bluff has the most amazing ocean/sunset views from their rooms and it's pretty affordable - nice restaurants nearby as well). Have to admit that when we drove from Pacifica to Gualala on Hwy 1 the area around Muir Beach looked incredibly beautiful. Just wish Gualala and Yachats were in easy driving distance of each other, our next trip would be so much easier to plan!

As for Crescent City, well, didn't see too much of it. We arrived when it was dark and left not long after it was light again and unfortunately it was pretty wet. The hotel was OK, but the toilet broke (we seem to have a history of this in hotels!), and the hotel restaurant basically tried to poison Pam with chicken that was clearly a few days after its sell by date - I've never tasted something so disgusting. Not a place I plan to return to and the hotel is actually one of the top-rated ones there believe it or not.

OK, really is the last post from me here, but as a further thank you to everyone I thought I'd share this snapshot I took in Astoria, OR.

This ended up as Pam's Christmas present (yes, she's already opened it) and after both of us battling through a tough 2013 I thought I'd share it here as well. It's the Astoria-Megler Bridge which crosses the Columbia River between Washington and Oregon and was taken from one of the hotels we stayed in during the trip - a trip that was made so much easier to plan thanks to all your help!

Sorry, Rob, I know I'm taking liberties here because it's not Hawaii related, but did want to share a little something for those here that helped us so much and also reinvigorated my interest in photography - I haven't had a lot of time or interest for that hobby in the last year or so!

wow, Tom, the photo is beautiful and I took the liberty to scan your other pictures. You are very talented! Beautiful...Hawaii or not, I always love to take time to see nice photo captures. I'm sure your wife loves the picture, too.
