Two Steps Closer!
#1
We wired the funds for our lot the other day and were supposed to close this week. It looks like the Japanese owner needs some extra time to get the documents endorsed by the consulate. Wish we would have known sooner, but as long as its all good in the end, we're happy.

Also, I got a call this morning to schedule an interview for a position in Hilo on Saturday. If it works out well we will be taking a 40% pay cut while increasing my hours 50%, but that seems to be the local job market. I was hoping to find something in mechanical engineering; this position isnt, but it is supervisory and hopefully will be technical and challenging enough to keep me interested. Fingers crossed. If anyone has any leads on other positions I would really appreciate the information.

Happy new year!

More good news!
I think my second interview went well and there was some positive feedback from the first interview. Also, the pay situation isn't as dire as I first thought. Looks like it will be a couple of weeks until they get back with me on whether they want to bring me down for an in-person interview.
Now I need to figure out what to wear if I'm called in. I usually interview in a suit and tie. I learned that here in AK this is more formal than is expected for most professional positions. What form of dress is customary for interviews in Hilo? I think I'd die if I had to where a suit on a 70* day, strait off the plane from AK!

Don't wear a dress, you can go more casual here.

Mahalo Sun.

I'm glad you said that as I have a hard time finding dresses that fit my 6'2", 275# frame.

Still, am I correct to assume board shorts and slippers are too casual?

Dress slacks, dress shoes and a classy short sleeve Hawaiian shirt will do fine and should keep you somewhat cool coming fromAK. Well groomed and smelling nice never hurt either. I cant count how many applicants I have had who either forgot to brush their teeth or use their deodorant!!

Congratulations on finding your property and on getting another interview.

I would think you'd be correct in assuming that board shorts and slippers are too casual. Would it be possible for you to bring a change of clothes in a carry on, and change before your interview? Something like a short sleeve shirt and a pair of dockers maybe?

You can go to Hilo Hatties and ask them for a nice aloha shirt, tell them you have a bussiness meeting
