Orchid Land road fund misused?

Anyone else get a postcard in the mail about the road fund having misused $200K?

Yes the previous president who walked out is agitating for his way on our highways. He seems to be a trouble maker and a flake. If you look at the Orchidland Blog you can get somewhat updated on the controversy. https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/Orch...s/messages

I have met Wes personally and he seems genuine. I got the postcard, but have yet to investigate. I think Wes was president for several years.

Just went to Wes's website and also read the other comments on another website. It appears that the conflict is in regards to "keeping the chip and seal roads maintained more" or "paving new roads-according to the longterm plan". Well, I want the paving plan followed and will call board members later today. Can anyone else chime in on what they are actually fighting over? We already pay a lot of money, and it would be nice to see a new road occasionally- at least graded -or started on the paving!

OK, I just spoke to Director Carey. Evidently, the chipseal money has already been collected and so that money is allocated for that via a previous agreement. Ok, so now, at the March 1st meeting- some new kind of agreement has to be voted on and put in place. Either the chipsealing continues, and/or more money is collected- to then move forward with additional paving. I personally would like to have that corner at Pohaku and 40th paved. It would provide a better commute via hwy 11 for many residents of Orchidland. Ideally, also- all of 40th would be paved for the same reason. Let's use pavement this time and stop using the chip seal- since it really is not cost effective in the long run.

Regardless of what people think about the post card sender or the postcard one good thing is coming out of this.

It will make people think about how the neighborhood associations work, how money is collected and allocated, will make some folks learn more about their neighborhood and maybe some folks will get involved.

Hopefully this will also serve as a cautionary tale to other subdivisions who are contemplating new mandatory road fees and/or increases of existing fees.

Bottom line: you have no control over the money once it's given. Just like with County.

It would be advantageous to have another route out of upper Puna besides Ainaloa and 130. Pohaku Drive/Shower will eventually have a stop light. It's Pohaku to 40th and then out via Ola'a to 11. I also understand why those who live along that route are hesitant to having it become a throughway and the accompanying traffic. I guess that's what Wes wants as a priority. I'd go for that too but his childish behavior, resigning from the board, reinstating himself on the board, having his name as president on the Orchidland Web site which I guess he runs when he is not president make him a character who is an agitator not a consensus builder. Clearly the community should decide which comes first, paving of 40th or paving over the chip seal. Also wouldn't it be nice if the county would step up as we all pay taxes and take over that route from 130 to 11 and be responsible for paving it and keeping it up. Understand that the county did that for Ainaloa to 9 rd. then up to 8 road out to 11 though this is hearsay.

I've also thought that 40th would be an excellent alternate route makai/mauka for lower Puna. It could be connected to Ainaloa Blvd then all the way up to 11 in a straight shot. It makes perfect sense but for sure I would want it county built and paid for.
