In this week’s issue of Science, researchers from the University of Texas at Austin report that crazy ants are actually able to detoxify fire ants’ venom, helping them displace this usually dominant species.
Not that past efforts involving introduced species to deal with
other introduced species have gone extremely well, but this might be an answer to the LFA problem.

I think it is the other species of fire ant that they combat, not the LFA.

I lost a laptop to some black ants a few years ago.
It has been sitting on a shelf unused for awhile, and when I opened it up it had turned into an ant farm!

It's also not the yellow crazy ant which we have here, but a different (unrelated) species that's currently invading the mainland. And yes, they're even worse than fire ants.

Delta9r,
Remove the battery from anything electronic you intend to leave laying about for any length of time. They destroyed a multi meter I had sitting in a storage container because the battery was left in it.

Electric Ants (aka LFA's) like we have here in Hawaii are NOT the same species as those found in Texas etc.

I believe the whole point.. is that this particular ant is more aggressive than the Fire Ant, much like some birds are more aggressive.. And will run out/destroy the competition, for food etc..
This ant would have no problem taking over the island.with this climate/environment.
LFA would be easy pickings compared to what they're dealing with now.
One the plus side, they might not like termites either..
