Rob has a good point. If "they" can make it rain, do you really think they would let California suffer? They would be doing everything they could to soak that state.

my vote is ....
The tropical plants are just happy that they got their rain for the night and are sending out their spores making everyone sneeze.
But, what do I know? This is probably the blooming season. Hawaii has 3 seasons for blooming plants.

Too Funny,
I am guessing the Government is really concerned about seeding the clouds to make it rain in Leilani and for conserving electricity? Maybe it's a private drone?

This thread does explain some of the otherwise inexplicable election results that come out of Puna.

Good morning Puna. Thank you webbers for your input, especially yours BOB. I would also like to thank our local Geothermal for not sharing their waste with Leilani this morning?. Not only did we not get that suspicious rain last night at 2:45 A.M, We also did not see any of that nasty gas that hangs around 3 feet off the ground. My boys were able to run this morning without the allergies, My wife woke on her own with no complaints about her skin allergies. The clear morning we are having today makes my wife and I think most of this gas we put up with daily is from geothermal, We don't think the volcano just decided to give us a break the day after we complained. We drove around Poihiki, Kapoho, Nanawale, and Leilani again this morning like we usually do around 4-5 A.M. This was one of the clearest mornings with NO signs of the gas we have been getting use to seeing in our headlights. My 1 year old loves the rides early in the morning, my other sons like to run in the mornings without the gas.
P.S. We need a really good health study around this Geothermal plant so we might be able to sleep or live a little more care free. Why no health studies here since 1994? Why the allergies or skin disorders? Why are we spending most of our mornings in clouds of gas waiting for this slow relocation process?. Thanks for the break this morning Geothermal. JMO'S.

Rain comes from the sky naturally. Issues of physical health sometimes come from the fact that we live on an active volcano which is sending a finger of lava through the nearby forest. The "purest air on Earth" myth needs to have a stake driven through its heart. I am right on the coast and it still smells like BBQ. It ain't from the geothermal plant. My concern about the geothermal plant is that it is not American-owned and that it does nothing to lower electricity rates.
My other concern is that I am starting to see small signs of the zombie apocalypse, each time I see the people hanging out at the picnic table at Island Naturals in Pahoa. They seem harmless, but I give them a wide berth just in case. By the way, whatever happened to zombies who wanted to eat your brains? No one ever wants my brains anymore.

Just out of curiosity - have you a weather station? Anyway to record and keep track of wind velocity/direction, barometric pressure, humidity , temperature? Do you have a method to track gas emissions and their geographical sources?
You live right smack dab center of an active rift, thus the reason for the presence of relatively heavy SO2 PPM and potentially high CO2 ppm before a peak eruption. That rift extends from the Pacific Ocean sea floor all the way up to the Kilaeuea caldera. It is laced with active vents. Would you move into the Kilauea Caldera? Why would you then move atop the very rift that feeds Kilauea directly and park yourself above active near surface lava, it's the same thing without the obvious visible presence of a caldera itself, all the rest is present or lurking a little further below the ground allowing the upper rock to temporarily remain cool (for the moment). At any time it may decide to create a new caldera in your driveway.
We all gamble living here, we have all accepted that or something similar too by way of flow. Some of us have decided to gamble more greatly than others and move right smack atop the known sources of Lava emissions and everything that is associated with it.
Personally I have no idea why any governing body should be relocating anyone out of there on the tax payers nickel. Maybe in the case of emergency evacuation of persons but otherwise... no, no payoffs unless insured and suffering a loss. So people can buy on an active rift zone and then get paid 130% of the property value because they later decide it's not working for them to live there. I don't get it.

Apparently DOH actively monitors aspects of air quality in Puna somewhere. Here is one report tool I've found:
http://emdweb.doh.hawaii.gov/air-quality/
Most useful for me was selecting "Reports"-"Monthly Matrix" and requesting "graph" view for input data.
