Represent your development

Out of my curiosity, what area/community/development do you live in and why do you choose that area ?

I'll be in Orchidland when I first arrive for a few months, but have also considered Volcano, HPP, Leilani and Mountain View.

Why are you where you are at and why did you choose it ?

This has been covered many times before, and the search function will be a very good starting off point.

One thing I have noticed: many here changed what & where they wanted to live, after moving here.

Some bought a few "virgin" farm acres & decided that living in town was best FOR THEM, others initially bought up elevation and settled in a home at lower elevation, some, like us, expected that they would buy acreage near the water & then changed after seeing the maintenance & work property near the ocean needs, others have moved here built a dream house & then had to move to something more accessible due to illness or injury.

For almost everyone, price & availability play a large part of where they live.

For you, there may be a whole lot of reasons that would have you prefer one area over another, areas that for others are exactly where they want to be...

So enjoy your search, as finding the perfect place for you would not be the same as for anyone else.

Ive read a few posts like "what area is good to live in" OR " Is HPP a good area ?"

But, as you mentioned, each persons needs are different. That is why I am curious to know, why those that live in Puna, picked their specific area, what did you like about it or how did you end up there ?

OLE 500-900 foot elevation; 5 miles from ocean-less salty air, less crowded than HPP. OLE 2-3 acres; HPP 1 acre same price. Leilani lava zone 1-2, ole zone 3. Mtn. View & Leilani more rain. Volcano a bit cold, further from Hilo 25Miles, OLE 11 miles. That's why for me.

Hawaiian Acres.
I started out near the forest reserve but the influx of undesirable traffic brought by the Puna Emergency Access Road caused me to move to the front part of the subdivision.

I am now a little higher in elevation, but am also closer to Hilo, and these are both good things for me.

I chose both locations for their solitude. I just want to be left alone.

Even though I am not quite old yet, I am the same way. I've been told its the "get off my lawn" syndrome. Just want some peace when at home.

I have lived in Leilani for a number of years. Once, up closer to the top, now down towards the bottom - sunny side. leilani has 2 sections, divided essentially between the CCR section and the non-restricted section at the very far top. I have only lived in the CCR portion as I didn't care for the nearly anything goes, unpaved roads thing.

Leilanidude,

Does the commute to Hilo ever bother you now that you are farther away ?
