RJ Hampton files for District 5
#21
Aloha Kathy H, Mahalo for your excellent questions. Here are my answers.

Q: Do you feel that you have a good resume of working relationships with people who get things done in your district and in offices that affect your district (such as County services like Building Dept) or State (DOT), and so forth?

Yes – I personally feel that a good working relationship is always developed when you’re dedicated to accomplish something good and the people or Department you must work with have the same goal in mind. The only way to accomplish a common goal is to work together for the common good. When I was a legislative assistant, I developed excellent working relationships with all the County Departments and staff along with my constituents who had interest in the matters at hand.

Q: Could you elaborate on specific departments and areas where you already have good relationships such that a call from you can help get things that are stuck unstuck for your constituents?

As a Councilwoman, as with any Council member, you develop respect and a rapport with all County and State governmental agencies and staff such that good relationships are developed. With this relationship, I am sure that any legitimate communication with any government agency or staff member will be respected and if the need for help is realistic, then un-sticking what might be stuck will be resolved to the satisfaction of the constituent.

Q: In this forum, there is an understandable emphasis on getting major changes, funding, and improvements for Puna. What do you have to say about the role of a Councilperson in providing individual response for the constituents who need help, feel ignored by public agencies, and so forth?

Puna is a very unique area with very unique people. Many residents do not want any government intervention and their feelings must be respected. Yet I fully agree that many want major changes and improvements. The real problem is striking a balance. I will work hard as a Councilwoman to obtain our fair share of funding to make the needed infrastructure improvements that the majority wants. I will stay in touch with my constituents through regular talk story sessions to keep tuned into the wishes of the District. What is important to remember is that District 5 is a very large district not only does it contain lower Puna but also upper Puna that have their own needs and wish lists and this has to be factored into the equation. I will listen to any and all constituents, find out their needs, and work to obtain solutions.

Graham Ellis and the Hiccup Circus have done much to implement services in Puna Makai that the County cannot, or will not fund.

These include; youth activities such as circus/athletic/educational training,Drug awareness programs, meeting venues, and more.

Do you support the efforts of individuals and groups that supplement and pay for inadequate County involvement in your district?

If so, what would you do to enhance youth programs in Puna Makai?

Aloha, RJ,
thanks so much for your detailed reply. I like the way you articulate this, sounds very good to me. [Smile]

I definitely appreciate the dilemma with your district where the constituency is split on various major issues, at times even intransigent on either side. I do not envy you the task of pleasing opposing factions.

It would be great to see a CP in your district who is going to stick it out for multiple terms (if elected), long enough to see things from start to finish. Would this be your goal?

Kathy, Check out one of RJ's quiet backers, Dr. Len Horowitz. A real classic conspiracy nut. RJ & Satvia were based out of his Steam Vent Inn for quite a while back in the Emily Naeole days. Maybe still. I don't know. Dr. Len sells some quackery "oxysilver" water for $50 a glass to cure what ails you... ques right in on RJ's anti-vaccination stance which she's making no mention of. Modern Medicine is trying to kill you but Dr. Len has the answer for $50 per glass of water.

RJ is also unlikely to bring up Emily's failed bill for the county to acquire the steam vent property directly adjacent to Horowitz's Steam Vent Inn. A very shady proposal likely to boost the land value of RJ's buddy - Dr. Len and create a nice little nesting area for Emily, RJ and Sativa. It failed. Serious nutcasery.

Pay attention folks. The campaign has just begun.
Assume the best and ask questions.

I've seen the website for the "Kingdom of Heaven" place before, and I don't like it. It comes off as quackery bordering on cultism. Is this the same bunch who owned it several years ago, who were a sort of religious group? That was really creepy culty.

In that case, RJ, if this is something you support, it would be important to hear a statement about your relationship to this "Dr." Len and his outfit, and your whole connection to Steam Vent Inn and the Naole project. Absolutely relevant.

Thanks Rob, and as you mention the silver, I think it might be good to know that our Senator's business sells products that cost considerably more than $50 and some of which also could be questioned. I don't know about oxysilver, but certainly colloidal. (I have seen it work efficaciously as a topical, so not putting it down.)

(Re health spas, I've been to various hot springs places (on Japan, New Mexico, Switzerland, California), and I liked them, and think that soaking in hot spring mineral water is wonderful -- but what I very much dislike is exaggerated claims of benefits and healing.)

Conspiracy nut aspect, I don't really know, and honestly don't care to read more of the K of H site as I feel somewhat slimed by looking at it. Perhaps Rob or other persons could elaborate.

Rob, I am shocked that you as owner of Punaweb would spread such misinformation and BS. Lets get the facts straight. Len is not, and never has been a backer, silent or otherwise, of RJ. They are not buddy's as you claim. They had their parting of the ways many years ago when Len was on his tenacious, suit happy period were he was suing everybody, including RJ. Yes, he is a conspiracy nut so you have that right. RJ and Sativa were only caretakers of his property until he fired them. They have no association with him at this point and they have no respect for him and is irrational behavior. Your theory that the County purchase of the neighboring property was to increase the value of Len's property and to benefit Emily, RJ, and Sativa,is so off base that it is on the verge of being harassment. A nesting place, that is ridiculous and you know that is not true. If this posing was done by any other person, you would have pulled it immediately so why should you be allowed to post lies and miss-truths. Serious nutcasery, yes your posting is.

I could care less if you are shocked. The anti-vaccination resolution fit hand in glove with Dr. Len's philosophies. The bill to preserve Steam Vent just conveniently targeted a property next door which Dr. Len owned and R.J. & Sativa resided in.

That was a period of Emily Naeole being manipulated by her Siamese twinned legislative aides: RJ & Sativa.

Some deeds do no get undone. Birds of a feather do flock together. Time does not heal all wounds. Major stupidity does not get forgotten.

And when did you become a spokesman for Len Horowitz?

Assume the best and ask questions.

Aloha KathyH and Rob,

I agree with your assessment of Leonard Horowitz. I don't think he has a cult, however, for that necessitates followers. I hesitate to speak of LH because I am

apprehensive over being sued again although his suit was thrown out of court. He has already sued the county, several judges, his ex-wife and a whole host of

others. He cannot help himself. He is like Jack Lemmon in The Out-of-Towners "What's your name? You're gonna hear from my lawyers!"

Rob, I would like to take this opportunity to clear up some misunderstandings that you may have about the steam vent legislation. Here is the order of events

concerning the purchasing of the property known as the "steam vents". The owner (not Leonard Horowitz) came to visit my boss in December of 2008 and made her

aware that he wanted to sell his Opihikao property where the steam vents are located. His wish was to preserve the steam vents for the community and future

generations. At that time, there were many people in the district who expressed a desire for the county to purchase the property and make it assessable to the

public. So they had a meeting and their strategy was to try and purchase the steam vents through the open space process. As legislative assistant, I was

responsible for doing the work to apply for open space which is no easy matter. I filled out the application answering all of the detailed questions complete

with photos and submitted it. The open space process would take time, so in the interim, it was decided that perhaps a resolution needed to be crafted to see

what the community and council thought about the idea. I was asked to put together a resolution. The county council thought it was a good idea and voted

unanimously for the resolution. It all came to a halt when Emily Naeole lost the election. The next councilperson wrote a resolution to undo the other

resolution. I think the steam vents were sold to a private individual. End of story.

Rob, remember, I was not the council person I was a legislative assistant and it was my job to write the legislation that was necessary.
