once again paid an incredible auto repair bill. this time the mechanic said "those roads are killing your vehicles" , "this is a senseless repair " . i have consulted an attorney and inquired about obtaining reimbursement for the repair . HARC has accepted complete responsibility for the road. they collect money to do repairs , and claim to be the only allowable organization to repair the roads.
this puts them in a position of liability. is anyone interested in a class action lawsuit against HARC. if so speak up , join up and bring on your auto repair bills

And I promise you this - as an Hawaiian Acres Land and Home Owner, I will insure you that not one goddamn cent will ever be paid by me to a piece of **** like you.
And even as a Haole who moved here 20 plus years ago, my recommendation to you is to go "Back to the Mainland."

There are a lot of mechanics and car dealers in Hilo that like the road conditions in HA and other locales.

I am personally going to start looking for investors to pave those roads. I can only see the faces of sheer horror of the people that oppose change. I am sick of it, this island IS NOT YOURS ONLY and you will not keep it in the middle ages due to your ignorance!

The difference being that you enjoy the choices of a free market, and your mechanic is accountable to you for the money spent.
Let's put a dollar figure on it. I think it's about $1000/year. If you pay that money to County (in the form of an LID for the roads, higher property taxes), it disappears into the budget, maybe your roads will be maintained, maybe not, but County will not be accountable, and you'll enjoy all the trimmings (higher taxes, more crime, flattened pets).
I maintain that the correct solution is "fewer trips to town". If there was a farmers' market withing walking (bicycling, dirtbike) distance, I could go to town half as often, so my car repairs would last twice as long. However, local farmers' markets simply can't afford the costs of "compliance" with County regulations -- effectively forcing more trips to town, exactly as intended by the PCDP.
Agree with Ken: you want paved roads and full services, move to a place that has those things. Perhaps Kona would be more "appropriate".
