Best cell phone in Puna?
#11
I moved here to Hawaiian Acres in upper Puna district a little over a year ago with Verizon. It worked pretty good: had great phone reception and decent internet coverage, even being able to stream yoga videos on YouTube from time to time (no wind or rain)... just made a switch as my contract was up and I was sick of the $100+ a month bill, for not even unlimited minutes. Now I have AT&T on my parent's family plan, and I pay half the amount for decent coverage. I can still stream videos from YouTube in the back of the property on clear days, but I can't load as good from internet in my home, which is slightly frustrating as that is my 'computer' and how I get my news.. but hey, small price to pay to live in paradise Smile I tried Mobi PCS before switching to another contract, but it did not work well for me here in Hawaiian Acres at all. I'm with Terracore, etc... wait until you get here before deciding, and check coverage maps for all providers before making any decisions.

I had T-Mobile which made my iPhone turn into a brick. Switched to Verizon which has worked fine, but they are SOOO expensive and known for over charges...

Oneself, I had verizon, coverage was silly good price and customer service was silly bad. Good luck dealing with them. Rhonda of Tazmania, seems ATT will be best for me thanks for the info. I cant show up with no phone or one that doesnt work. They said I could get a 808 number, even though I am in P.A. Just want to get as much done as I can before I leave. It seems they and verizon are the 2 best choices.

Consumer Cellular will bill you twice - once for data and once for voice. Adds up on a hurry...

Anyone have the no contract phone plans? We will be moving soon and trying to keep things cheap. Til we find out where we will be planting our feet on the Big Island. Currently we have the Virgin no contract phones and the service at our current house is crappy but it works in other places just fine. So we were wondering if anyone uses the no contract plans and try to find out the best one for us.

Bigislandlovers check out any of these that use the AT&T or verizon networks.

@lavalava - I don't get billed twice by Consumer Cellular.

I like it, but it's not ideal if it's your primary internet source.
