I dunno... I hate to think that just ANYONE with some wood working skills could just come here and do what she did. So I really hope that people don't get the idea that it's this easy.

She is a skilled person and very busy person....

That being said, I saw no permits... She better have really good neighbors to watch her house while she is away. Tho, the trap door is a GREAT idea. I think even skilled thieves would have a hard time with that... Not like every thief has a sledge hammer and a cordless sawsall in the trunk.

Anyway, she states that she might send her mom back over in a few months. Well, this ain't the mainland.... A few months could turn into half a year and by that time the jungle will have reclaimed the house and lot!

Tho, I dunno, either she got extremely lucky, or had a lot of money or BOTH... For someone that got here with no car, she had to know a lot of people. Maybe it's her looks or charm. Dunno, but it took me much longer to accomplish what she did and I had a car at least!

I dunno. She had to have a lot of help, the video didn't even show her mom working, or her holding any tools. No pictures of her with sweat dripping off. Just pointing at stuff that she (apparently) did.

I find the whole thing kinda funny ... would have like to see all the money spent for materials and well... The video doesn't add up at all.

I got to:

"Day 7: We got the truck for $800. That’s over my usual $500 maximum on the main land but I plan to recoup the money and sell it when I leave." and bailed

A little jelly jelly are we? I think what she did was pretty awesome. She probably had some loot but it wouldn't take being rich to do this. She must've saved up and may have done something similar before and of course she is not going to film while she is still sweating and working. Clearly she filmed after she finished with certain steps. No reason to film every nail that went in, that would be boring unless it was a "how to". It's more just documentation of a project. It's a well done vacation cabin.

I got as far as "Page 1 of 13" and bailed.

I don't get it she built this amazing little home by "herself" (ha ha) and then just left the island right after?

I wonder how quick it all "walked away".

But really why go through all that time and effort and then just leave? She didn't need a place to stay? It was just something she did on a whim? I'm not trying to judge her but it makes me sad when I think of all the little kids and homeless peoples without a roof or with some rusty old shanty infested with termites and fleas. Sigh.

I wonder how much it all cost. Never saw a total. Also wonder where she bought that she had no rocks!

I read about her elsewhere. She has this place in Puna and another place on the mainland in a similar sort of out of the way location, both of them "tiny houses". I found myself wondering what was so sustainable about building tiny houses if you have more than one and they are 1/4 of the world apart.

Why criticize her? She's doing what she is passionate about and doing a great job. The lady has talent. More power to her.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Why criticize her?

Flagrant violation of the Building and Planning requirements?

"Rules are for Everyone", or so I've been told. Repeatedly.

But you don't know that for a fact do you? Just making an assumption.

This woman is amazing. My son and I almost killed ourselves, just trying to put together a few Ohia trees to make a shelter. Eventually gave up. She had help thought to lift the beams up that high etc, but this is a very creative design!
