Mosquitoes!
#11
I have a couple of those foggers. I'm not impressed. I guess if you're only doing a small 1/4 acre or smaller lot they might be OK. Unfortunately the little buggers travel. You can fog the heck out of your lot and they will migrate over from the neighbor with all of the bromeliads in no time.

Plant Citronella and Lemongrass around the outside of your house and lanai. Stack one kind after the other. They look pretty, smell great, can be used to cook and make tea and also ward of mosquitos well.

I've also heard that mosquitoes prefer individuals who have a higher content of sugar in their diet. I've wondered if this is true. Has anyone cut sugars from their diet and seen a reprieve from the attack of the skeeters?

I've heard something similar to that, specifically that mosquitoes are more attracted to people who drink alcohol versus people who don't. Not sure if that is true, but I'm not much of a drinker and they don't bother me much and they love my mom who loves her wine! So...maybe? [Big Grin]

Well if your drunk, your blood would be thinned, so it may be easier for them to drink ?

Mosquitoes are my nemesis (an opponent or enemy that is very difficult to defeat)!! I have tried so many diets, some repulsive, some not so bad, and nothing helped me. Even Skin-So-Soft didn't work for me because it caused a rash on both arms. So, I learned to work in the yard in the early, cooler time of the morning, and if I had to be out in the Hawaiian jungle for any extended time, I used mosquito spray with Deet. I never built up any resistance to the bite, each one stung intensely and itched ferociously for days. Hot water, as hot as I could tolerate without burning, was the only thing that relieved the itching.
My family of mosquitoes feed off of me mostly in the day time after it warms up. At night, I can enjoy the cool air without too much harassment. And when a mosquito does attack, she bites incessantly with as many as 5-6 bites before I can finally squish her due to the fact that she gets too heavy to maneuver and escape.
I don't drink any alcohol, I am not diabetic, I am white-skinned from Irish descent. Who knows why! I am blood type O and that has been researched as a possible reason for the buggers liking me so much.

Anyway, I am soon leaving my wonderful perfect Hawaii to get married and start a new life with new bugs (and a new hubbySmile ) I'll learn about new types of mosquitoes, the ones with West Nile; I will be dealing with ticks and chiggers; and poisonous snakes. LOL....Hawaii, I love you and will miss you!
