First Impressions (10 things)
MAHALO for the welcomes. Now time for some bragging, not something I'm used to but in this case I just can't help it. 22 hours from the plane landing And I have gotten a working audition from Leslie at Kaleo`s. I couldn't be more confident in my ability to impress during this trial run. MAHALO David Shaw for the heads up on Kaleo`s and Leslie. So any Punatic that's able to come to Kaleo`s Thursday night ask for Jim although I will have a short leash if you ask for me they'll probably let me wait on you. Again much MAHALO to all.

Congrats on your good news, and welcome not just to PUNA, but to the Big Island of Hawaii.

MAHALO for the more welcomes. I have to say for first impressions I just spent a few hours with Gypsy 69 and his big beautiful family at their wonderful home, eating fruit right off his trees I have never seen let alone tasted before and I am really feeling the ALOHA. I even feel some decompression from the mainland rat race. Just can't get over how mysterious and hauntingly beautiful this place really is. Only just got a little scratch in the surface I'm sure.

Ok I was prepared for my first trip to the market I knew some things would be pricey. I wouldn't say I suffered sticker shock more like sticker hilarity. Some things just made me LOL. The price of one thing compared to another seemed nonsensical. I have to agree with Oneself it is dark in Puna. I don't think I would want a streetlight every 100 yards. I like that mysterious haunted feeling of not knowing what could be just beyond the reach of the headlights. I just wish my piece of crap rental car had better headlights. If there is a place that warrants some pricey high end head lights it is Puna. My goodness were the people at the market kind and friendly. That would be Malama market. Now I talked to just about every person working there tonight and I mean they were all so pleasant. It's not unusual for the cashier on the mainland to throw in a couple cents to even your total, this girl put in like 37 cents made sure I started the little gas punch card and explained how it works . Kind of makes the sticker hilarity a little easier to take

Do your shopping in HILO. KTA, SACK N SAVE, WALMART, TARGET and the farmers market in HILO is also a good place to shop. Its cheaper then most places in PAHOA, especially if you use coupons.

Eagle, I kinda knew that was the case goin in. From previous posts her on puna web. Mike here at the hostel offered to take me along to Costco next week. I just needed a few things last night to get started. I did see that the market in Pahoa does some business though. Just people supplementing there bulk shopping I guess. I drove by kta on my way out of Hilo Tuesday I knew I should have stopped. MAHALO for the advice eagle...get a chance to run any more ammo through that browning?

Congratulations to you both Oneself and FJ for finding jobs so fast! That is truly impressive. I only hope we can be half as successful.
After reading this I am feeling so disheartened. Our plan is to move in the fall, or when we find a house.
After researching the jobs available on the BI years ago, my hubby chose to go to school for electrical technologies. WE made a plan, and he has now just finished school. I have been running a business from home to provide for the family til he got done w/school.
Everyone seems to be saying that the trades are hard to get into. So it will be next to impossible for him to find a job?
He doesnt have enough experience to start up his own side business and he isnt licensed in HI. We could run our business there but it is mainly my deal (artistic and time consuming to teach someone else) My hopes are to homeschool my 4 kids when we get there and I would love to only do my business as a side deal rather than the all consuming every moment of every day thing it has become. Would love some thoughts and even a little encouragement would be amazing if anyone could squeeze that in Smile Have a lovely day!

Its a colorful life!
