BILL 25 Zendo's last hurrah!

Yes and we are even against cigarette smokers smoking at the Community Center and other public places Rob. Like you, Maddie and Tiffany do. Birds of a feather flock together. There is a cancer growing in Puna and it has been growing there for a long time.

Interesting how those who have moved into - and set up home and castle in an ag area are the loudest whiners about ag operations and farmers trying to make a go of it. Next you will be complaining about what types of crops are being grown next door and types of implements being used.

You came to the ag areas, the ag areas didn't come to you.

Actually this bill will take revenues away from real genuine farmers. This bill was written for the business people and developers who would like to turn ag lots into mini marts or should I say "sustainable" mini marts.

For about the last 20 years now.

Again, this reads like a distortion of a draft bill...

You came to the ag areas, the ag areas didn't come to you.

I suggest that County "played along" with this by allowing the creation of quarter-acre "farm lots" -- if these subdivisions were zoned R, as is appropriate for their lot size, most of these problems with "permitted agricultural uses" would vanish.

Now for a simple economics question: if the citizens are precluded from starting home-based businesses, where will the future tax base come from? Don't suggest that people "can go rent commercial space": it's expensive, in limited supply, and requires a commute, any or all of which are beyond the shoestring budget...

So you would have no problem with "real genuine farming" operations in your subdivision?

You are really not getting it kalakoa, are you? A "real genuine farming operation" could not operate on a 1/5 of an acre lot. And a real farm operation does not require music for it's operation to thrive. What does music have to do with agricultural operations?

My uncle thought his dairy cows produced better when they listened to classical music or country music.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Rob, did your uncle live in a subdivision on a 1/5 of an acre? How big was his farm?

HAAS has designed and tested a bench top hydroponic system that is organic, compact and inexpensive. The same technology on a quarter acre could produce pounds of fancy lettuce, snow peas, cherry tomatoes daily($5-$7/lb).

A bench top system like the one at HAAS could feed a family with fresh organic salads year round. This system (or how to build one) could also be the "product" that is produced and sold by the mini farm.

Wouldn't want a noisy lettuce growing operation next to you, would you?

Better to just get EBT and drive to Hilo for food.

Thank you for supporting my point: "Ag" is inappropriate zoning for a 7500sf lot, and this is the root cause of most problems with "permitted agricultural uses".

Fixing the "fake ag residential" zoning problem would be a far better use of everyone's time.

To the topic at hand: amend Bill 25 to require a minimum lot size. Setting this minimum to 5 acres would preclude "minor ag tourism" in the "ag pretending to be residential" subdivisions. Problem solved.
