Candidate Eligibility
#61
I'm voting for Pueo in D-5.
I have too many reservations about Paleka possibly becoming Hilo's 3rd vote in the Council.
Both Pueo and Paleka are good people, but...........

Good questions all.
That meeting was at the Unitarian Universalists in HPP.

What kind of candidate rather removes the clip than stands by what she said and issues a statement to explain herself???

One who runs to an attorney immediately and follows advice to protect herself? Problem is, by pulling it sends the message her attorney thinks she is in trouble because of it. Otherwise it would be much better to leave it online and at least she could claim a bit of transparency. Now she can't.

What will she do if there is another forum and she gets asked about it? Will she say her attorney has advised her not to speak about it? What a great start that would be to her envisioned eight years in office that she has been talking about.

Based upon a quick check of public records of neighboring homes on the same street that are comparable in size/condition and do not have any property tax exemptions, the annual savings on that property tax bill is somewhere in the area of $1,000 to $1,400 (by having a homeowner exemption). The property is located on Kaikuono St.

UPDATE!!!
I just talked to the poster of the video and he told me that he pulled the video because he felt threatened by Tiffany's attorneys, Steve Strauss, and was not in the mood to get sued. Plain and simple. I am going to re post the video on youtube and continue to press this issue until there is a decision made. Tiffany might slip thru and remain on the ballot due to a technicality. We would have had to have caught her misrepresentation 60 days after her filing which would have made that June 10th. Some people have all the luck.

Just imagine what Tiffany could accomplish for D5. I really hope she wins.

Sativa, why did you delete your update from earlier this morning about the video not being posted anymore and suggesting that her lawyer had it pulled ? What you wrote upset me and KathyH enough to comment on it.
Please, you also need to stand by what you wrote and explain yourself instead of deleting a post where you jumped to conclusions.

Steve Strauss is the same attorney suing the County of Hawai'i, representing builder Scott Watson (the one who built the mansion with the helicopter landing and basketball stadium in Hakalau). He sued the County so that Watson's project would be able to get built into the public shoreline access at Pepe'ekeo Point, challenging the County's right to have Special Management Area setbacks, if I understand it right.

A fine attorney for a County Council candidate to use. [Wink]

(Note: I'm part of the citizen's group that has been fighting this public access blockage for the last 15 months or so, is why I know about it.)

You're wrong again Kathy. Watson has a pending issue with the Windward Planning Commission concerning his Pepe'ekeo Point property. There is no lawsuit.

In the past, Steven Strauss represented a group of Pepe'ekeo citizens against the Hu Honua development there.

No, I meant to say sued, as I believe the suit was settled. He filed it in Circuit Court and I have a copy of the Complaint, so I am not wrong about that.

Yes, I know about the Windward Planning Commission issue as we are attending the hearing and attending the Planning Commission site visit next week.

I realize he represented against Hu Honua. Although you may not know, as you don't live in Pepe'ekeo, that a lot of the locals supported Hu Honua for jobs and energy savings, and the bulk of the opponents were regarded as transplants who didn't want a business infringing on their now gated and elite subdivision.

He was representing the rich, not the locals.

Thank you for asking lo-ka-hi. Here is my reason. I take responsibility for my post but I got it backwards. It wasn't Tiffany or her attorney that pulled the video it was the producer. He felt intimated by an email he received this morning from Mr. Strauss, Tiffany's attorney and told me he was not in the mood to be sued. He understood that he had the right to post it he just didn't want the heat. So I plan to put the video, that I own, back on youtube because it is a public video that was shot at a public forum after all candidates agreed to be videotaped.

P.S. lo-ka-hi, I did not know it upset you so much. If I had to do it all over again I would have left the post up. I deleted it and do not have a copy because I typed it right into the site after getting off the phone with the producer.
