My son just sent me a Craigslist ad on Oahu. An individual was offering 24 20-oz. bottles Dasani for $100. We went shopping at our Pahoa stand-byes and did not see any profiteering. However if some merchants are jacking prices of scarce items I would like to know and avoid them in the future.
Saw a news report that KTA was not only maintaining water prices but honoring discount coupons. Smart move by a retailer that supports the community.

Yayyy for KTA.
Clearly there are both a$$holes and angels in our community.

Well in this case it seems to take two....Who would BUY water at that price when you could so easily have gotten it elsewhere or gotten a 5 gallon jug and filled it.

ABC stores charged me 25¢ a bottle for the 4 1.5 liter bottles of drinking water I bought today in Waikiki. Reg. 99¢ a bottle.

The is a price freeze on all commodities effective in Hawaii thru 8-15 and that was announced on KITV by a state official. Evidently price gouging has begun and the state has had to step in.

buying bottled water and consuming it, is the worst thing you can do for your health.
Get a 5 gallon jug and fill it... Our island has the best water on the planet that is healthy to drink than bottled water!

After the Governor declares a state of emergency.. It is illegal to raise the prices on anything. I just read an article on one of these Hawaii news sites that explains the law.. But now I can't find the link...but there is a number you can call to report it.

Details on how to report price gouging and on the law itself can be found in this KHON2 article. Hope this helps in case anyone experiences gouging.

so i have been told that safeway doubled the price of its water. and 'wholefoods' did the same. can anyone confirm? if so a) are the two companies owned by the same corporation? b) did they rise their prices prior to the state of emergency and how does that relate to the law? shame on them if its true. i shop at safeway, but i will stop if this is confirmed.
