On HNN Sunrise this morning they stated that HELCO is setting up a public information center at the Community Center in Hawaiian Beaches today (Monday.) They say that they will also be offering device charging there.
Additionally, they said that crews with tools and trucks are shipping in from Oahu today, and that Young Bros. are barging over poles, lines and other materials.

Nothing is getting done because they are down playing the outage.

The first barge since the storm is due into Hilo this evening. Hopefully the barge will be carrying utility poles and transformers.
Assume the best and ask questions.

HPR has covered the outage (both on local coverage and a national news segment) this morning....(I cannot find the link yet, & this is just what I remember...) but it seems that PGV will be offline for quite a while as the amount of tree removal to replace the high power transmission lines in some areas is extreme. The report also stated that HEICO had stated that power outage for some residents will be a very long rime (this is not a direct quote from the broadcast, but it was something like that)
The national part was because the Puna residents without power will be determining the Senate race for Hawaii...and did have the fact that 6,000 residents will be receiving absentee ballots in the mail & will have (I think the report had said 21) days to return the ballots

the communications from the "mayor" are poor , and very inarticulate . we are all now seeing a good case of you get what you vote for. this situation should be a huge eye opener for everyone that is struggling. ole Billy , lacks the business skills and education to run a big county like the big island we all know what to do next election.
civil defense ,very little communications .
water wagons should be set up shower stations should be available and charging sites for many more areas .
as to hawaii electric they have gotten rate hikes based on the cost of line maintenance .......and it is very obvious they have done nothing to keep the lines cleared.
crews should be working around the clock in shifts bring in more workers fly in more equipment. poor management at the top

Barge with supplies (poles, transformers, etc. for HELCO) on it's way from Honolulu. Staff from MECO and HECO on it's way from both Maui and Oahu today to help our HELCO crews.
If people would please leave the front line workers alone who are doing everything possible to get everyone back on line. They are working round the clock in minimum 12 hour shifts.
Of note, my nephew who is a lineman for HELCO was threatened with a gun by some jackass the other day, prompting police escorts for the HELCO crews. What the hell is wrong with some people?!!! [

!]
Please also call in the "suspicious" vehicles that are probably looking to rip off houses. Some claiming to be tree trimmers, etc., especially in the HPP area and Leilani Estates. (Sorry, off topic, but important).

So where do we get these water wagons, shower facilities, charging stations, extra crews and equipment et al? Wish them into existence? Crews are working around the clock, there isn't surplus equipment or materials on the island. And there is no way Helco could have kept the lines clear in a storm of this magnitude unless they got into clear cutting, which probably wouldn't sit well with the local community. It's called a disaster for a reason. Apparently nobody died because of the storm for which we should be thankful. It could easily have been much worse. Now we just have to deal with the inconvenience of the aftermath and that is really all it is. Inconvenience because our lives may be a bit more difficult for a while and our comfort zone has been violated. But nobody is dying. I've been through 4 real hurricanes and their aftermath and the response to this storm has been as good or better than any of those experiences. The community response has been phenomenal with neighbors helping neighbors, strangers helping strangers simply because help was needed and as long as that continues we will all be okay. We all love living in paradise but seem to forget that sometimes paradise can be anything but.
