I've been watching the local and national news a lot. Have not seen any sign of Billy Kenoi. I would be expecting him to be making public announcements. A lot of them. Is it just me? Anybody else see our mayor in action?
A lot of people are looking for information.
Assume the best and ask questions.

No. Not since the news reports prepping for the storm in the Civil Defense briefing room, save the few written updates on the County website.
I'm sure he's on the phone calling in more help and supplies, sitting at his desk signing all kinds of documents for State and Federal aid, coordinating all the other County's donations and shipping, (hopefully) begging the Governor for his home town that is in dire need, and the like.
I would expect a briefing for Puna and Hawai'i County, to hear what his plan is, what is already being done, and where we all go from here. He's our Mayor, he's got to be doing something, right?
After all, he's home grown! He's Puna! He's gonna get us through this! Right? Come on, Braddah, bring your people some kokua!
I'm holding my breath until all of the above happens, only to breathe to smoke another cigarette.

Could somebody break down for me how a mayor is more than an elected official for a city? Is he actually the mayor of the county?

Yes, he's mayor for the entire island/county. There are no city governments here.

I am sure that he is working hard, but I agree, it would be good to see him. Calming, and reassurance from those in charge is very useful in times like this and may help alleviate a lot of people's stress. I don't think for a second he's in his safe room or ignoring the issues here. The governor should be getting out such messages too. It's odd that any governor isn't going to an ongoing disaster zone in his state to at least show the local media how he is involved and explain what he is doing.

Billy, Whom? Rob Tucker, this area is a mess.. Downed poles, wires, no electricity, hungry keikis, Billy? Where has he has been? I do not see him passing water. generators. Or any info out of his mouth. I set up my Ohana with the only generator I had... They have babies to feed, I do not. I can survive.. Mothers are suffering, children going hungry. I live down by Hawaiian Shores/beach road. There is not enough crews to clean this disaster. I feel like Katrina residents felt way back then. Maybe Billy is having a beer.
