I agree Chas!
Why would something certain people claim to be be untruthful induce fear in those very same people?
Rob, are we allowed to talk about the ghosts of Puna?

Although I may not agree with most of the things he may say, I never felt the need to prove him wrong. I notice most of the people on this form that I admire never do either.
OK, let the attacks begin on me now I guess...
Chas, you take a quite benign view of what most informed people would consider to be groundless fear-mongering. I would advocate the view that paranoia, and propagation of paranoia among the more credulous in the population is pretty corrosive of the social fabric. The implication of Janet L's and O-Bob's responses to skepticism about their claims suggest that anyone that disagrees with them is either in collusion with a great conspiracy against the planet's population, or is completely ignorant of reality.
On these forums the silliness can be ignored; when it shows up in public hearings with the intent of influencing public policy that adversely affects the larger population, it's a good deal less benign. Janet L claims that the MK observatories are supporting the military - so more people show up at the public hearings to obstruct development of observatories based on these nonsensical claims... Fear-mongering over generalized spraying of chemicals - now we have to shut down the use of agricultural chemicals that are essential to successful farming...
It's okay to secretly suspect your neighbor is a witch, but when you're part of the crowd that wants to burn him/her at the stake, it's another matter.

Oh and just to be clear, just because I said I may not agree with everything Bob says, I DO agree with him in that there is a lot of bad things that go on in this world that is kept from the public by powerful people. People who like it when guys like him are shouted down.
I like Bob and hope he isn't removed from the forum.

I would agree absolutely with your first statement - but I truly believe you are wrong on the second one: the real bad guys couldn't care less about allegations of chem trails and weather modification or anything else O-Bob is worried about. And in that sense, O-Bob's fears about his pet topics, even though sincerely held by him and others, distract attention and energy and public focus from the truly bad things that are going on...
I'm not advocating that Rob kick O-Bob off the forum, but I don't think Rob is out of line to keep a firm hand on the leash either.

I would love to take part in the conversation right now, but unfortunately I'm busy at our HAARP station on Mauna Kea manipulating the weather (have a look at what we did to Julio and Karina) and also covertly testing new laser weaponry for the military. I'll be back down to sea lavel in a few days. See you then!

Ditto. geochem and Mr. Tom are spot on with this stuff, given their professional/personal experiences.
I'm still stuck on aliens landing in Kalapana (some of us call it Kaimu, but whatever.) [:0]
