Our neighborhood has been devastated. We have seven homes that are totally destroyed. Many other homes have serious damage. The tide pools are off limits to the public at this time because the road/parking area has been destroyed. We are not allowing public access. If you're driving a frontend loader or a dump truck you will be welcomed, otherwise we ask that you please stay away.

Obie, I am also saddened to hear of this. The community will recover eventually. I hope people will come help as you have mentioned.

A video of small UAV flyover of Kapoho and Vactionland is up on Youtube, from a few days ago. Very dramatic views. Several of the houses on stilts in Vacationland actually came through fairly well.

Aloha!
Someone did go out and the reef is damaged.
Yes as Obie said unless you are coming to help clean up please respect the neighborhood at this time.
There has been big equipment in trying to get ponds clean etc. We have major debris problems
If you do come to help, park by mailboxes and walk-in.

There has been a tremendous outpouring of help from the community. Church groups have traveled from as far as Kona to provide food, ice and water.
The Aloha spirit is alive and well.

Wish there was something more I could do to help than just say I am thinking of you guys down there. Do let us know if there is, in addition to what's already been posted.

So sorry to see and hear these experiences. So sad.[V] That area hold so much history.
Has anyone contact the Lyman ohana to see what help they can lend? I'm sure they're doing something towards the rebuilding of this area.
Lono Lyman is a good man. He needs to realize the severity of the situation, if he is not already aware.

The Lyman family develop Beachlots.
The Hara family did Vacationland.
I believe we are seeing this response because we are not gated and welcome people to share this very special place.
One benefit of this storm is that all of the damaged houses will have to replace their cesspools with aerobic systems.
