E Aloha Mai E Pele!
In the coming days, many will go and pay respects to Tutu Pele with ho'okupu, makana, and prayer. Mahalo to those who attempt to embrace our culture, and understand our beliefs in our home land.
For what it's worth, as we kanaka maoli prepare for Tutu's visit, we remember our teachings. Respectfully ask for protection, mercy, and always mahalo our kupuna.
Some will sprinkle Hawaiian salt at each corner of their aina, as prayers/chants are done, for cleansing and protection.
Ti leaf planted at each boundary of your land was supposed to be a "respectful request" of Tutu Pele to please go around.
In the end, it is our belief Tutu Pele created our aina, and thus, can take it back at will.
Prepare yourself for perhaps, a once in a lifetime experience. Some of us have been through this before, and welcome the change Tutu Pele apparently has planned.
This chant will be heard often at Halemaumau for the next few weeks or months.

As Carol has pointed out in the past, Uruguay is the only country in the world not subject to some kind of natural disaster. If there is a UruguayWeb, it's probably one of the only forums in the world that doesn't have posters asking about government assistance in a time of crisis.

I wasn't raised in Hawaii so my belief system doesn't use the same terms as locals. What some may call Pele, I may call Gaia, or Earth. I do not believe earth is a conscious decision making entity, but rather a natural living force that has and always will be balancing itself out.
With that being said, Gaia, or Earth, or Pele, or whatever you choose to name this force, is pissed off. We have seen, all over the planet, a huge increase in natural disasters over the last 10-15 years. Earth is cleansing itself, because it is needed. Scientists all over are no saying we are soon to have an extinction level event - We are at our biospheryical limits. Why this isn't broadcast on every news staion so everyone on earth is more conscious of it, I am not sure. This past storm Isselle and the lava flow is a small part of the bigger picture.

The recent data that came out showing there haw been NO increase in global temperatures for something like 17 years now... and that the Al-Gore-Oh-My-God-we-are-all-going-to-die ozone hole, which has now almost completely healed itself, the Artic ice sheet is back to a normal level, etc., changes most of those dire predictions of doom.
