At this point punaweb is my best source of current conditions. Are there any other good websites or live stream sources that I can use to keep updated? (I check Civil Defense and USGS periodically). I'm on the mainland and my ohana's in Nanawale, packed and ready to go if necessary, but no internet access. They've asked me to let them know crucial changes, such as how many vents are going off now (I'm not sure) and, of course, any new vents or movement. They're not sure the house on stilts can take any more big quakes. So keep all your fantastic info coming, Punawebbers, and big mahalo

Hawaii News Now on Facebook has be doing a great job (thanks especially to the hard work of Maleka Lincoln who many of us know from the 2014 Pahoa flow). They've been posting many live feeds to Facebook first and then sometimes to their website later.

For those of us, me included, who refuse to participate in Facebook, the breaking news options are sometimes limited. Punaweb is great, but many of the links provided by posters don't work without a Facebook membership.

Yeah - I'm not a fan of Facebook either, but given both the individuals on the scene posting and it being the first place for many media reports it is the primary source of info right now.
I've been trying to link directly to videos for Punaweb's 2018 Lava Flow Emergency Forum (which seems to work for non-facebook users?) but let me know and I'll see what tech options might be available.

I'm not on Facebook but both links worked for me. Many sites are public.

I've been searching (and posting to, when I can't find anything more definitive) Twitter, using the hashtag "LeilaniEstates." It's been pretty good, and unlike Facebook, it's all public.

You don't have to like or agree with how Facebook is poisoning people's minds in order to exploit it for your own benefit.
Sign up with fake information and only "use" them. If you are afraid of them putting cookies on your computer, use your browser's privacy feature.
I'm not a huge fan of how social media is polluting people's brains but to try to resist using them "in principle" (or whatever) is a lot like resisting radio, TV, telephones, cell phones, etc when they were new technologies.
Consider "using" them with your fake information to be like sneaking past enemy lines and stealing their information.

If only Maleka Lincoln would expand her vocabulary. Every third word she says is "official". "officials say...", "we spoke with officials...", "the third eruption has been officially confirmed...", "we're your official news source...". cringeworthy.

Thanks, terracore. I will consider your sane and practical approach. Meanwhile, as noted by ironyak and kalianna, some FB links do work for non-members.

If only Maleka Lincoln
I met Mileka Lincoln during the 2014 lava flow. She's incredibly sincere and clearly cared about the people of Pahoa. I could hear it in her voice and see it in her eyes when she was off camera. She seemed to know almost everyone who walked past by name.
When she's reporting, it's like having one of us report our story to the rest of the state.
