Looks like HPP will get a PMAR like it or not

After years of endless talk and debate it appears that HPP cannot avoid the strategic reality of an alternate route coming their way.

Who will lay down in front of the bull dozers?

Probably after the lava event the road will have all kinds of boulders blocking it. Maybe a few junked out cars added to the mix. Unless the county keeps it open and maintained? I kinda wonder if it will be a nice biking, exercise option? Good long hike? Could be a nice workout spot if nothing else.

Exercise/future light rail run to Hilo would be nice. Terminus would be the roundhouse by the airport for the light rail. I believe it's still standing. Have spur up Mountain View like old days. Hate to see progress as such, hence the use of the word "future". At least get it on the 25 year plan to handle the population at that time, unfortunately.

Closure of the roads after the lava? Lol The threat to flow over the highway again will still exist. Continued use and maintenance of the road would be the only rational option.

i was thinking the same thing rob. the pear went through HA with alot of opposition and once the money was spent, the road stays open. even though it is officially closed to heavy commercial traffic, they were actually diverting traffic through it a couple of weeks ago with the hwy 130 construction. so i think after all this state money is spent improving these roads and providing yet another emergency access route, it will be there to stay.

Just like Iselle taking care of the albizia death corridor past Lava Tree .

I believe some good and common sense will come of this impending disaster !!!

Yes..They will probably block it up after the event. And it will be a great jogging/ biking path at least for a year or two until the grass gets too high and becomes full of pot holes from heavy rains.

Sucks. It sends 10,000 people right past my house. Does anyone realize what traffic is going to be like in HPP ? And what happens when the lava gets to railroad ?

Sucky plan all around, but what else can you do ?

Oh, maybe divert it !

1/4 roundhouse still is there, but I think it is in use (not rail use)
