How many on this board from lower puna?

My career is in Hilo, but if I have to choose, I choose Puna Makai.

The berkey guy has been just a touch heavy handed in his outreach to Punaweb members, both by email and by posting on all kinds of unrelated threads with what is essentially an advertisement for his products. I would guess it is a good product, but there is a time and a place for everything.

i had the original british daulton water purifier for years. the berkey filters are the same.
i know nothing of the kona berkey rep's heavy hand. i just googled daulton filters and found his hawaii website.

i did compare mainland berkey reps' website prices to the hawaii rep. he is cheaper.
when i find resources that might make the near future a little easier for someone, i will post them. anyone is welcome to email me if they want more info on what i find. i am a budget based upcycler yet a used water filtration system was not to be found.
2 cents a gallon for safe drinking water when i may not be able to recycle plastic water bottles weighed in on my decision to buy new.

Carol,

Are you saying you got an unsolicited email from the Berkey Water rep?

Yep. Wrote it off as a newbie who didn't understand how forums work, and then he shoved his product promo into a discussion between cancer survivors and it just felt really wrong to me.

Nanawale here, so I'll be cut off as well. Gonna be working on my raised garden beds this weekend that I've been putting off forever. If you're planning on staying, it would be a good idea to be as self-sufficient as possible imo.

My apologies for getting this topic further off track...

If he wrote you an unsolicited email, that was wrong. However, his post in the 'Introduce Yourself' thread wasn't shoved into a discussion. That cancer discussion looks like it took place five days before Berkey Water posted.

Virtually every post he has made is an advertisement. Not what I am looking for on a community forum during a crisis, that is what the unclassifieds are for. But he posted two different "I can save you money" responses on the introduce yourself thread. It doesn't matter how many days passed before he did that since the other people posted, he took their post and used it as a springboard for a promo for his business. Like I said earlier, there is a time and place for everything.

I've been self employed, I understand the desire to network, but people here are facing major changes in their lives, including losing homes and businesses, that shouldn't be used as a selling opportunity by someone with a product or products to sell.

I am done with this discussion in this thread.

Three posts that mention his business...how horrible! Never mind the fact that those changes might mean people needing a means to make their catchment water potable.

edit to add: I live in lower Puna.

I got an unsolicited email from him also. Nothing more than spam. I've also started to notice his "2 cents a gallon drinking water" springing up. Carpetbagger-Profiteer! I agree with CSGray, he should wait until the crisis is past before saturating the public with his come-ons.
