Many maybe defensive of the representative because we don't have county water piped in and considering the current situation may need to make sure we have drinking water no matter what. Several of my neighbors have these filter systems and highly recommend them. When we purchased ours the representative was very helpful and the prices reasonable so considering the circumstances we're facing and the resource of the filters, negative comments are not something some of welcome in the here and now. Unsolieited emails are not good but the comments started into a witch hunt regarding browser advertisements that have nothing to do with the rep.

I don't care what he's selling or how good it is, I don't want his spam. But now he's stopped. Good.

I carefully did not launch a witch hunt, I only mentioned it days after getting the spam when Shay started to push his products, because a lot of us are very conscious of what kind of businesses we promote. In fact it was your wahine who just wouldn't let the whole subject go, then Shay decided to pile on, so I ended up having to defend myself. I didn't spam people, I didn't call the guy names, I just told people what he did. He spammed a lot of us here and then you tried to claim it was a result of our search engine preferences, which is BS.
I also do not have piped water, like most of Puna, but I do not participate on Punaweb to get spammed. It was a violation of netiquette, and self serving during a time of crisis.

I carefully did not launch a witch hunt, I only mentioned it days after getting the spam when Shay started to push his products, because a lot of us are very conscious of what kind of businesses we promote. In fact it was your wahine who just wouldn't let the whole subject go, then Shay decided to pile on, so I ended up having to defend myself. I stopped posting on this thread last night until you dragged me back in with your BS statement about me not letting it go. Your sorry attempt to claim he posted in numerous threads is a joke. I agreed with you about the spamming emails. Shay, KathyH and I have one opinion about the Berkey. You, Snorkle and Paul W have another.

get your facts straight. i did not 'start to push his products'. i googled daulton because i had one before and found berkyhawaii. i posted the link because of free shipping and lower prices. i did not "pile on". i posted the guy also posted an offering to come and help anyone who asks after you wrote he had a 'heavy hand'.
i dont push products, i post websites and links that might help someone. if you object to that, please dont read my posts and i wont read yours.

Back to the subject, I live in Nanawale. Can't even see the glow at night and definitely not being subjected to any noxious fumes from the lava or fires....I've always appreciated being upwind of the geo plant and Pu'u 'O'o! I think we get the least vog of anywhere in the state here in Nanawale.
It bothers me to see so many people so frightened. I wrote a book about Kalapana, using my own clip files from covering the eruption for the paper as well as all the other info I could access. And that file is the thickness of an entire shelf in a filing cabinet. That's because it took nearly seven years for the flow to finally cover Kalapana, a much smaller geographic area than the direction this flow is heading. So I feel many of us are going to be in limbo for quite a while, with each one of us having to reflect and determine what our best options are based on our individual circumstances. Obviously, it's gonna be next to impossible to sell our homes here in lower Puna. And I'm gonna have to wait for lava to set fire to my house to be able to move somewhere else as I'm a senior on a fixed income and I'd still have to pay my bills here.
But that's minor....I don't have young, dependent children or a job I have to go to. I feel so very bad for the young and middleage families who depend on jobs in Pahoa, barely minimum wage if that. These families usually are living on the economic edge in the best of times. Now to lose their jobs and their homes?
So I think the more cooperative systems we can help set up ourselves down here in the People's Republic of Puna, the better. And one I see a real need for is a kind of hospice respite service.
I used to do respite care for Hospice of Hilo. Dropped out of Hospice when I went back to school and just when it became so Hilo-centric. I think we need to organize a group here in lower Puna of people who are willing to give respite care to caregivers who are overwhelmed with the stress of this lava flow as well as taking care of needy family members. The number of care-home beds is very limited and there are residents down here caring for severely handicapped loved ones. Maybe there are some nurses living down here who would also help with a hospice effort down here. Does this strike anyone else as a need we could do something about? Please respond.

We are Nanawale also and recently Hawaiian Shores Rec. We have always been on a limited budget financially and purchased a fixer upper in Hawaiian shores rec early 2013. Denny & I fixed her up ourselves (blood, sweat and tears definitely the home contains our spirit and DNA) to offer as a vacation rental to hopefully help us in our retirement years since neither of us have been able to set anything aside and prepare for our retirement. Which BTW is only a few years off – well was, one can always work into their elderly years as long as health permits.
It has been a difficult time for us as with many here in Puna recently. The lava comes knocking and then on Sept 16th (Last Tuesday) we were notified that the company Denny and I both work for is going out of business and can no longer afford to keep us on. We have been independent contractors so no option for unemployment. We have used almost ALL of our savings into the Shores Rec home and were planning first of the year to open her up as a vacation rental plus now have a added mortgage. Of course now on hold due to the unknowns with the lava we will have no income in the next few weeks. Initially felt totally devastated, crushed beyond belief – and now while we have our own issues there are many in the same situation if not worse. So I have chosen to look at the glass half full and not half empty.
We love Hawaii and always will Denny was born on the island which has welcomed him back and has given me a sense of yes this is where I belong we have felt home here more than anywhere else. This board has helped me out in so many ways especially recently seeing and experiencing all the Aloha and support that each has given to each other during this time of uncertainty. We are not alone even when one feels so alone and helpless.
Hawaii is our home and we will survive just as many others will. We have picked ourselves up a time or two in our lives and everything does seem to work out in the end.
So to everyone who is going through a hard time right now ~ remember “When one door shuts another one opens” life is a journey and being blessed with the “gift of life” is the most precious gift anyone could ever have.

I feel for you Freespirit, and understand all that you have stated. I have, in the past, faced similar situations.
You are correct. When one door closes, another opens up somewhere. Sometimes is hard to find it, because of the darkness left behind when that door closed. That's when I flip, but once my eyes have adjusted to the dark, that is when I can see the opening door.
