HPP Board 2014
Ah, snorkle, from an HPP resident's POV, your subdivision sounds like a utopia; another sign of how bad it is here. My gripe with this new board is how, after the storm, they shirked all responsibility to their constituents and left us to our own devices. There remains NO excuse (downed wires just don't work for me on this; it was the equivalent of closing down the town hall just when we most desperately needed it). It was unconscionable. HPP's board could learn a lot from others. Your board is openly proving to everyone just how bad HPP's new board is.

It is so sad to watch the bickering over roads and liability, etc., during a time when so many are losing so much. I'm glad HPP is in a position to help its neighbors and I REALLY wish we could do it with more aloha. It's about time. JMO

Another clueless HPP owner. Brand new board with no disaster relief plans in place by any of our previous GM's or boards. If there are owners who think disaster relief plans should be in place, please take the reins and spearhead a committee NOW.

Get guidance from the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Civil Defense, everyone! in getting a solid disaster relief plan ASAP. Make sure we have all the emergency equipment needed in inventory and properly maintained, and enough volunteers signed up to clear all the roads ASAP afterwards. Make sure you have a plan in place to contact all your volunteers on day 1 if there's no power. HPP seemed even larger when disaster hit; almost 150 miles of roadway was overwhelming. Come to the next board meeting and spearhead this committee.

I made a long overdue csll to my HPP Board representative. It was nice to hear from someone who understood the situation in its entirety. I ended the call feeling like I was represented by someone who was in a position to make better decisions than myself due to my lack of information. One interesting note concerning meeting minutes availability is that without a meeting, where the board is able to approve them, they can't/won't be made available.

Punalvr,

"I think you HPP guys are self centered, with no Aloha for what is about to happen."

And after TomK asks you to not lump everyone into the same group, there you go again:

Punalvr,

"All I know is that RR has always been a potential evacuation route, and now everybody is up in arms about it."

I'm not sure how the comments and opinions of a few Punatalkers becomes extrapolated and representative (everyone) of the whole of HPP.

I live off of Maku'u one block over from RR. To say that I and my neighbors are thrilled about the ongoing work with resultant dust, brigades of trucks (complete with air brakes), chainsaws and earth movers would be a whopper of the highest magnitude. However, the vast majority of us feel that our discomfort and the interruption in our routine is worth sacrificing - especially in light of what people south of us may have to deal with.

Lots of us are unhappy with the County for what we feel are cherry picked inequities regarding taxes, fees and road issues. There are concerns - and rightly so - about the vision, organization and effectiveness of the detour. We have more questions than the powers that be have answers, a recipe for uncertainty and disillusionment.

No one I've talked to is projecting our frustrations onto those who need access to HPP roads. While some of us may not exactly be welcoming with open arms, we get it that, for now, all options lie this way.

So, Punalvr, don't take our gripes with some of our leaders personally, please stop stereotyping all of HPP based on your own perceptions and Aloha is like your savings account; you get out if it what you put into it.

If I'm not mistaken the Civil Defense people restricted the removal of the lines down across the entrance of tha Hui after the storm not inaction by this new BOD. Morgan in the HPPOA office posted as much in response to csgrey's misinformation reguarding this issue. Please give her a call at the office for accurate info on the subject. Spreading of Misinformation is not helpful.

OrchidIslander,
Please try to follow my analogy here..
We live in a democracy where 50+1, determines the outcome, such as in elections, of whom is to represent us ALL.
The US elected this President. In foreign countries, it means: We, the people, of the USA, elected him, with no regard as to who did not vote for him. That simple.
Now back to the topic. The majority of the comments, on these threads about HPP, and its roads, are about how unfair it is to them. Whether is flying dirt, road noise, taking your yard away, the heavy machinery, the dues, the list goes on and on.
I would never have bought on a subdivision where CC&R's, and yearly dues are part of it.
That is why I live where I live. None of that crap to deal with, and people (Board), telling me what to do with my own property.
So, if I clumped all the comments as being representative of a community, whether negative or positive, it was because of the MAJORITY.
My comments were not aimed at the few. Hope you understand that. I know there are a few of you which does not feel that way.
I live on Beach Rd, I know the challenges ahead of us. I have anxiety attacks when leaving my property, and turning onto Beach Rd. It is a circus already, and the highway is still open.
I totally sympathize with you.
I am not against you, I am with you.
Aloha

Great thoughts. Thank you. Maybe the lava will stop, or maybe not. but it will unite us, and makes us a stronger community. We are here for a reason. We think alike, it's all about Ohana. As Lilo and Stitch said, Ohana means family, and no one gets left behind..
So true..

Clueless? Spreading misinformation? Wow. But all I did was express my own gripe with the new Board about something very concrete in its impact on residents. Like I said, the "downed-powerline" excuse just doesn't work for me. JMO. However, if that excuse works for you, fine. I don't think less of you or that you are spreading misinformation. I saw said downed power line quite early. It looked like they could've gotten it out of the way by the end of the first day, at least(!). But again, JMO, and it is fine if you disagree.

I know there is some controversy about WHY the power line remained down and I do not know what to believe. Therefore, I am more concerned THAT the power line remained down, that those responsible (no matter who they were) thought this was acceptable. JMO -- It was NOT acceptable.

Could we all stop with all the blaming and just try to get the work done? That is more my point. I posted because I was so impressed by snorkel's description of a BOD enabling its residents to strengthen their community to better deal with the emergency. Another JMO alert here -- I personally don't see that happening in HPP. And all of this divisiveness and all of these vendettas don't help (and please, don't start asking about what vendettas, etc., since I only know what is in the rumor mill and I will not contribute to that speculation in any way). In fact, I'm about done. :-D

Nhb, I'm confused. I did not know I said anything about mediation nor did I knowingly spread any misinformation about it.
