Have used Kona Vet Svcs many times. Great service.
Here is a suggestion to always keep in mind - especially if you desire to travel from Hawaii to the Mainland and back - with your pets - but ALWAYS get multiple "ORIGINAL" rabies/vaccination shot certifications from your vet. Every time you travel, you are required to submit to the State "ORIGINALS" - no copies!
At the time of vaccination just ask your vet to make out several "ORIGINALS" so you never have that situation arise.
Worth having, even if you never use them!
Also, send your paperwork to the State via Fed-Ex. PERIOD.
Request verification of delivery. Once you get it - call the State and confirm receipt and acceptance.

I hope you mean dog or cat. Any other species doesn't qualify for neighbor island release.

Yes, two cats; one dog. The cats are bigger than the dog. Delta would allow both cats to be in one kennel, but they do not do neighbor island release. United does the neighbor island release, but one animal per kennel. I'm just trying to look at the best solution, utilizing those who have done a fairly recent pet move. From what I gather, I could pay someone on Oahu to get the pets transferred onto the plane and I could pick them up in Hilo. I still need to see what the cost of that would be versus shipping them to Kona, having the vet examine/release them, etc.
Our vet's office (on Mainland) has done shipping abroad some, but it is not an everyday thing for them. My niece will have to "home" them for us to finish up the waiting (quarantine) period. I am glad that Hawaii is a no rabies state, but boy, this is a procedure and a half!
Again, any recent experiences, advice, etc. appreciated. I had initially done a search and this was the most recent thread I had found. Curious if there were more recent experiences or additional information anyone could share. A lot of good information on the links that someone had graciously posted, but I was uncertain if much had changed in the past few years.

We just last month helped move our son and daughter-in-law over here from Pennsylvania with their 3 children, and 3 dogs. We originally started the dog moving process ourselves, but became overwhelmed with the whole process. We found islandpetmovers.com and used them to ship the 3 dogs over here. My son, daughter-in-law and the 3 kids came first, island pet movers took the dogs to their farm on the mainland for the waiting period and then sent them over here, brought them straight to the house in Volcano. They took care of everything - all paperwork, they got all the certificates needed and sent us different options for airlines so we got to choose the price of the tickets. The only thing we had to do was buy the approved crates and have the dogs ready for their pick-up, but from my understanding, you can pick and choose what services you want them to provide.
A very smooth move and the dogs were extremely happy and very healthy when they arrived. I would spend the money, let the professionals do their job, these people are very caring, love animals, have connections all over the mainland and the Hawaiian islands, so if something gets delayed, or re-routed, they are right on top of it and were really awesome in the communication through the whole process. You can look them up on the web, we did the free quote with them, and knew all the costs upfront before we decided to use them.

I would recommend the pet mover in Honolulu for seven reasons. #1, it might be cheaper, even after their service fee. They have negotiated rates with the airlines. #2. You don't have to drive to Kona, and then subject your pet to 2-3 hours in a car after 6 hours or longer in a plane. #3 It is usually cooler in Hilo, so there is less chance the airline will turn you down at the departure airport for forecasted temps at arrival airport being too high. #4 They will make absolutely sure all the paperwork is in order so there is no chance of your pet being turned around. #5 Better connection options. #6 They can get room for kennels on the aircraft even if they airline tells you there isn't any (refer to #1). #7 They know the vets in HNL personally, and deal with them every day.
