Carol. Video and recordings are excellent ways to get "uninterpreted" information that is not run through a filter of someone else's perspective. The board chose to make sure that will not be available. They have chosen to limit our ability to get credible information, after scheduling these meetings when most working people cannot possibly attend.

Carol,
You have not attended the last several bod meetings, including the ones held in the evenings.

Try PARTICIPATING rather than criticising. Come to the HPP evening meetings. Join a committee. Do something positive to help instead of blaming others.

Karma,
I guess you think you know who I am, but of course since you hide behind a screen name, I have no idea who you are.

I share my HPP voting rights with my husband, who has attended meetings, I have attended those that I did not have a prior commitment. I am not retired and have the kind of profession that is a 60+ hour commitment, plus other commitments that are none of your business. Not belonging to a committee does not preclude me from having the right to be concerned by the actions of a board who gets a sizable chunk of my hard earned paycheck every year to spend, and who are now banning recordings or video taping of the HPP meetings. Ethical behavior from an elected board handling my money should not be an extraordinary expectation, only earned by belonging to a committee, or attending every meeting.

If they have nothing to hide the HPPOA board should post unedited video of all HPPOA meetings on the website for all HPPOA members, on or off island, to watch. Instead they banned video taping to limit access to an unedited version of their actions. The minutes are heavily edited, I compared the words ascribed to me in the minutes of one meeting to my notes and the tape made by someone else, and they were virtually unrecognizable, and left out the main point I made. If members cannot record the meetings anymore, then the only record of what is said and done will be minutes controlled by the board.

Karma,

Those allegations July 28 are not explanations.

If there was a theft, as the "missing items" suggested, where is the police report?

Where is documentation that the Board vote on the terminations?

Reply
"in an inappropriate manner that has brought legal actions."

James, what "legal actions" are you referring to ?

Last Thursday, just before the board meeting, several (6?) were served papers regarding the lawsuit resulting from the termination of employees.

btw: last evening, June and Bruce resigned from the board.

Where can I see the videos of the HPP Board meetings?
Will someone please post a link to the last couple Thursday morning HPP Board meetings that were videotaped?
Thank you

Please read the agenda on line again...it says you can record but "with prior authorization". So it's not prohibited.

The history has been with minutes of any board, even NW boards etc. that editing does occur. Not saying it's right but they all seem to do it.

Video recordings that started with the tenure of the previous board was not put on web sites or you tube. It was used for back up of information only by a lot owner after heavy editing was occurring of their minutes.

This "group" of recorders don't necessarily record for that in mind. It's also being used to harm or to possibly aid in the case against this board by someone with a personal agenda. We all saw one of the terminated employees filming and audio taping the Special General Membership Meeting. What could be their reasons for doing this?

It appears that someone is also zeroing in on a particular board member and posting it on the internet and for what other reason than to cause harm. One bad apple or more has caused this action of prohibiting others from recording unless authorized previously. You can thank them for this.

My hopes are that unruly lot owners don't show up at the board meeting to challenge this. It's clearly posted and there are reasons as stated. Who could blame this action after what's occurred by those that seek to harm? Please discourage the unruly people if so. This board has important business to take care of tonight.

If the board is not doing anything wrong they have nothing to fear from being recorded. Having to ask for their permission means they can pick and choose who get to record their actions, the only reason they would want to control who does and doesn't have that permission would be to make sure that the only recordings are done by people who are friendly to them.

Any member of HPP should be able to record or videotape meetings of a board who are supposed to represent them, if the board is afraid of possible legal action because of recordings or videos they are admitting they are doing something they are so ashamed of they don't want a public record of it.

Why has this recording item become such a big issue all of a sudden? This rule used to be in place with previous boards except it was prohibited period. Nowadays people can plaster the meetings on the web and I think we need to rethink all of this and what is considered fair. This opens it up to discussion.

I personally wouldn't want my face plastered everywhere without my permission. Carol, how would you feel if one of your students videoed you teaching your class one day without your knowledge? Then put on YouTube with a slanted caption or a selected scene focused on, out of context, giving a negative view of yourself? Maybe you did absolutely nothing wrong but with editing who knows what one can do. You find out later after someone tells you they saw you on YouTube. Has anyone out there found themselves in a similar scenario, and how did you feel about it?

We're not only talking about a transparency issue, or wrong doing while being videoed. It's about your face, your work, or the board's "volunteer" work being plastered on the web without permission. People doing what they will with what they recorded for their own harmful agenda. No pun intended, but this is a gray area with the recent technological advances.
