Good morning!
I have no idea why anyone would want to disrespect the largest, most successful and longest running Sunday farmers market in the chain of the Hawaiian islands. Except that some of you are a bunch of sick people who like to just go there. Does it make you feel good? Maku'u Farmers Market, now run by Hawaiians who have a nonprofit 501c3, have done all the things that were necessary to operate as a farmers market, including widening the roadway, so the turns would be in regulation. They paid for all of that out of their own funds and probably are still paying for it! Smell you later! I hear baking soda works just fine for absorbing odors. And it is cheap at half the price![8D] P.S.If you want to talk about this why don't you start your own topic? You could call it "Hygiene in Puna". It can be dedicated to our "olfactory nerve".

More importantly, the MFM operates many miles away from Sativa's backyard.

Kalakoa, just remember I had nothing to do with the SPACE market closing.
Nothing whatsoever, except for the part where SPACE and VGS were subjected to legal harassment and made to feel unwelcome. For the record, I had nothing to do with MFM deciding to charge for parking.

Some Puna residents believe Pele is coming down the mountain, to remove the old, and provide a clean slate.
As Pele gets closer to Pahoa town, I'm sure most of us will have our attention refocused on where she is going. Then, major squabbling over extremely minor issues will be forgotten, and Pele in one way or another will provide a fresh start.

The Hawaiian's charge $1. for parking so that they can build their community center, you cheap S.O.B. Why don't you just go live on the moon! They also have to pay for the red and black cinder that they have to keep laying down. I am glad you brought this up, kalakoa. Let me see if I can explain it to you. The irony here is, that Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA), has never given Maku'u Farmers Market folks, a dime for the market or any other project. And yet somehow OHA, found it in there hearts, to give Graham Ellis $50,000, for some bunk, short term performance piece. We all know what is going on here and that is why I am asking the question on another topic....Is there a political clique in Puna? I would like to know why OHA gave deference to Graham Ellis over the Hawaiians?

Before or after they had all those parties and allowed for concerts? Before or after they started the vacation rentals on State land? Before or after the drug and alcohol use? Before or after Graham decided to violate his S.U.P after having been warned by the Planning Director not to have his $25 ticket event? Which he had anyway! Remember May 3, 2012 when they brought their 3 ring circus to the Planning Commission? They have faced two revocations hopefully three will be the charm.

If it were an option, I would gladly do so. ...all those parties...allowed for concerts...drug and alcohol use... It has been made abundantly clear that none of these activities are actually a "problem" so long as they occur "elsewhere"... Graham decided to violate his S.U.P 1. Any failure by County to enforce the terms and conditions of the SUP is not Graham's fault; these issues need to be taken up with whichever County office governs compliance with the terms of an SUP as issued. 2. Uncle Robert doesn't have any SUP for the activities taking place at his location, which makes all those activities "illegal" under current zoning. To claim that Uncle Robert is somehow magically exempt from zoning/planning implies that either (a) special treatment of certain people is permissible, or (b) Special Use Permits are meaningless. Is there a political clique in Puna? Obviously there is, because "some people" are very upset at not having been invited.

quote: It isn't Graham's fault that the County didn't enforce its Code, but it is Graham's fault that he knowingly violated the code and the terms of his SUP. Uncle Robert's situation is equally in the wrong (as far as I know) but the difference is that the only people being inconvenienced/affected by activities at Uncle Robert's are his family/ohana, and they don't mind the illegal activities. But they would all be within their rights, just as Sativa and other SPACE neighbors are, to complain about non-compliant activities in their neighborhood. The County enforces on a complaint-driven basis, and apparently no one has complained about Uncle's yet. Now, God forbid there is a fire at Uncle's and someone got seriously hurt or killed. In that case, I would think the victims would have a valid cause to sue the County for knowingly allowing group activities in violation of zoning and fire safety laws. |
