A senior advisor? Can he intervene to stop delusional Destination Experts?

It's not as bad as a few weeks ago, but pro-Puna posts are still being deleted.
Try posting something yourself, anything that contradicts what the DEs have been saying.
Say for example that Hawaiian Acres isn't moldy or that Hawaiian Beaches isn't a slum. See how long it lasts.

In other news, Pahoa main road is open again. Happy times, except in parts of Hamakua.

recommend that all tourists rent Harley's and cruise up the scenic roads north of Hilo.

I've heard the helicopter tours north of Hilo are not to be missed. A good friend of my cousin's friend knows visitors who had to go twice it was so great.

Wow, TripAdvisor shut down the "Re: Is it safe to stay in Pahoa?" because it did not meet TripAdvisor's forum guidelines with regards to off-topic chat

Ya think ? The person asked if Pahoa was safe from lava and if the roads were closed.

The answer was yes it's safe and only one road was closed.I hope the DE's didn't drive them away !!

Paulw,
I Agree with you regarding cars on dirt roads.
I front Beach Rd between Kapoho and Hawaiian Shores.
Most, maybe 70 percent of cars are tourists driving this beautiful corridor.
Weekends, even higher.
Everyone drives their rentals to shreds, it's a fact.
This "experts" need to be shut down.
Even though I like my privacy, there is no need to degrade our beautiful spot.
But then, do we need to become commercialized?
I do not know.
Those two women talking, and been experts? Do not even live here!
I see plenty of comments being deleted at TA. But Miss Kathy is still an "expert"... How did that happen? Is she getting paid for almost 3.000 comments???

Well unfortunately I do not think there is anything we can do about their bias bashing. They will continue to do it and for some reason Tripadvisor allows them to do so. They get away with not following TA guidelines and then flag anyone posts for TA to remove who question them.

They do this to anyone who questions their postings and they take control over any topic that anyone posts anything positive about our area. It can be a simple question someone asks about where to eat in Pahoa. And they turn it around to where they make the poster feel like they are going to get sick from the food or mugged or something. I mean why say that to anyone? Some of these people already have booked their lodging and made their plans already. Makes no sense - just say a name of a place to eat and let it be or better yet don’t say anything at all.

I have read many of their posts even from months back regarding Pahoa and lower Puna and no doubt they have driven people away and this clearly is there intention

Bottom line those "women" are no experts whatsoever and in my book not even good people in general as I do not see how they could have any true “Aloha spirit” and do what they do which is clearly out of malice and in no way should be representing the Island of Hawaii as "Destination experts". These women are on a trip themselves which is clearly a “power trip”as the experts do not get paid so it is a "power trip" they are on.

I'm sure kathyH reads Puna-web as no doubt uses everything against us and prior before we found out who she was on tripadvisor she acted like she was one of us and cared. Cleary she had/has other motives all along!

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgivng!

The thread about what people like about Lower Puna is just sad. What sort of person hijacks a thread to put in all the things they DON'T like about the place being discussed? It's not like a restaurant review, asking for only positive reviews. As for the excuse "well, we just want to be honest about..." - I don't think anyone is going to read a post about things people LIKE about Lower Puna and expect to see negative results; they're going to expect to see things people like. The "bullying" on TA is pathetic. Of course, one might say this thread is doing the same thing, and to some extent that is true, but I think in this case it's with the good intention of wanting people on TA to actually get unbiased input about Puna from people who actually live in Puna.

Wow. What happened to Kathy? Why all the bashing? Maybe her intentions were good, maybe a lot of what she wrote about Pahoa or Puna is true?. What could she gain by bashing our area? Doesn't she work for our district attorney Mr Roth, maybe she was paid to bring this negativity on Puna?.

Kathy you have questioned many of my previous posts, I have only graciously answered or replied in the past. Could or would you be so kind to explain your intentions or way of bad mouthing Puna and its trying businesses? Always felt as if you were part of our community as you shared compassion and energy towards our greatest concerns. Kathy this is one of those times when you could hide or disappear, or you could face the truths and facts in a professional manner. These times are great opportunities to grow as a person with less prejudices to carry with you. Yet this forum may not be the place to explain or apologize, the readers of TripAdvisor may be a bit kinder or understanding. One thing is for sure, when you write or speak in the future you will have many more readers and listeners. Whether that will be positive or negative is up to you.
Wish you only the best and hope these coming holidays find you healthy, happy, and feeling terrific. Miss you already.

The only way to point out the inaccuracies of a few "experts" on TripAdvisor is to discuss what they are posting, so I agree this thread has a different purpose. It's not to drag down TripAdvisor posters, it's to ask them to base their observations on reality. Take for example a recent post over there:

It happened to me my last trip, and every single time I visit I notice the derelicts, yes, absolutely. My family has used the Bay Clinic in Pahoa for almost a decade of medical care, thus requiring frequent trips to Pahoa for that alone (not the only reason I go). Plenty of killing time on the trips where I offered the transportation, as the Bay Clinic doesn't see people remotely on time, sometimes hours of waiting. Each time I have heard and seen things in public that were not at all the norm for me around Hilo, and even more so not in Kohala.

Maybe "they" sense you are a regular and don't bother to approach you?

Now, any resident of Puna will know that is just not true. I've lived here 15 years and have been approached in Pahoa by a bona fide derelict maybe a couple of times. But therein lies the problem. If you read more of the "expert's" posts, you come to realize that as residents of Puna, we are all derelicts in their eyes. From the perspective of an outsider high on a branch in a Hamakua eucalyptus tree, looking down at us, figuratively and literally, the statement above will be defended as the absolute truth. How do you get around that kind of thinking?

Imagine how it looks to someone on the mainland who doesn't know any better?

She works for Mitch Roth? Are you sure? He's a stand up guy, hmmm I wonder if he knows about her prolific posting "hobby"? Perhaps we should all send links of this thread to him? Or perhaps a barage of phone calls?

@Justin,
You think we are bullying KathyH? Wow you seem to be as observant as the rioters in Ferguson who still think the officer was in the wrong after countless pages of fraudulent testimony revealed by those who started the inquest with their eyewitness blatant lies.

Mitch Roth should be bringing up charges against KathyH or firing her at the very least for damages to individuals and our economy via the tourist industry.
