There is a new memember on tripadvisor posting on the whats nice about pahoa thread. Of course new today and only (2) posts on tripadvisor stating how horrible and contanimated the tide pools are.

"Many people, including locals and island visitors, have gotten sick with a potentially deadly flesh eating bacteria, that requires sometimes limbs being removed, after swimming in the Kapoho tide pools. In my opinion, the thought of tourists, unknowingly swimming in these Kapoho poo ponds, so that the owner of the vacation rental can make money, is unforgivable and criminal! Kapoho Beach Lots is a gated community where most of the owners have refused to make the costly upgrades to mitigate this sewage pollution problem."

I knew the tide pools possibly were not the cleanest but I have never gotten sick I did not hear of anyone having to get limbs removed but and older man that used the thermal pond had to from infection but I think I read where he was having issus prior to using the pond.

Anyrate I smell a "snake" sounds like someone else they got to do their cruisade.

Sorry, but I'm having a hard time seeing what's wrong with Kathy's posts. Pahoa is a dump and a lousy place to visit. Hilo may have more derelicts total, but it's a much bigger town - there are places you can go that aren't ****holes. The problem with Pahoa is there's one not-very-long street, so when that's where all the derelicts and decay is, there's nothing else. You all sound like you're in denial that Pahoa is seen so low not just by people elsewhere in the state but elsewhere in Puna. Kind of like the people who run terrible hotels and try to make their guests sign agreements not to post negative reviews to TA or Yelp, and then sue them when the guests try to warn others away.

It is not just about Pahoa they are speaking bad about it is of ALL of lower puna the whole area. We live here it's horrible to hear people who don't even live in the area disrespect the area that you live in and call home. When alot of it is untruths!

Yes old town Pahoa may not be the best place as there are some "colorful" people but there are many good places to eat and some nice small shops both in old town and new town. But old and new parts of Pahoa is still considered Pahoa town.

So regarding KathyH and her opinons "If you don't have anything to say good then why say anything at all?"

Or say it in a nicer way something like "Oh you like to do those types of activities? well although lower Puna is quite lovely there really is not alot in the area of the types of activities you are looking at doing. May I suggest this location?

Something like that.. but they do not do it that way...

Midnight Rambler,
Your answer may be in your personal perspective. As a vacation rental manager I engage with tourists daily. One of my closest friends also manages and owns rentals, same thing. I'm not going to offer you the link to our websites with hundreds of 5 star reviews about the incredibly great time the vast majority of our guests experience here in lower Puna.

Instead I invite you to check out the main rental sites like VRBO and Airbnb. Not every rental is 5 star but you can read about how much folks enjoy coming and returning to lower Puna.

Puna can be seen from it's best side, or worst side. Your choice:

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times
It was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness
It was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness
It was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair
We had everything before us, we had nothing before us
-Charles Dickens (1859)

Does anyone on this board want to be nonimated as "Pahoa" Destination Expert? So far there isn't one and anyone can be nominated for the position? It does not pay anything but it would be a voice for lower Puna for those who are considering traveling to our area.

Rambler, your opinion of Pahoa is your good right. But you don't try to stop anyone from voicing a different opinion.
You give your opinion, you don't spread lies to back it up and delete any post that contradicts the lie.

I assume you genuinely don't like Pahoa, instead of hating a couple of people and wanting everyone else to pay for living in the same area.
There's the difference.

The campaign to destroy tourism in lower Puna is almost complete !

I would like to thank everyone involved for participating !!

When all of the tourists are gone I will really have a dream neighborhood.

Thanks again !!!!"

I just posted this on TA !!

I really can't thank KathyH enough for driving away all of the tourists.I can't thank her in person on TA so I will thank her here.

This has been so much better than putting up a gate and much cheaper too !!!

Here's another suggestion.

If Kathy & Shea have read some of the suggestions on this thread, they have to realize that multiple emails to tripadvisor about their comments is not what they want to have happen. If they continue as they have, more people will sign up and begin to comment on the site, diluting the impact of their own comments. People will also follow them to other threads (already happening).

I suggest a truce. Kathy & Shea refrain from any further comments about Puna on tripadvisor, even their "positive" comments. The Puna defenders leave K&S alone to say what they want about the rest of Hawaii & planet earth.

Nobody likes to be told what to do, so I'm sure neither of them want to feel they're restricted, especially by a group of derelicts down here in the hinterlands. But I think if they take a moment to consider the proposal they'll find it to their advantage in the long run.

Kathy & Shea, I generally have the impression you have to hold you nose to even think & write about our crummy little district. Consider this offer in the same spirit and intent as if someone asked whether they could take out the garbage for you, or scrub the toilet.
