I do monitor the website and I am more than moderately informed.
There was NEVER any statement that Roseanne resigned on the website.
HPPdog said the name "Roseanne" and said she "resigned".
No names were ever on the web site and no announcement that anyone had resigned was on the web site.
The only statement that Roseanne resigned was here on punaweb by HPPwatchdog.

I'm sorry, I don't understand how someone who monitors the HPPOA website regularly would have missed the front-page announcement of the need for a candidate for Director for District 8, or that Roseanne McLean's name had been removed from the list of Directors and replaced by the word "vacant".

No, the word "resignation" was not posted on the website. But a search for a replacement indicates the previous occupant of the position is no longer performing those functions.

There are several ways Ms. McLean could have stopped being a Director: resignation, no longer being a member in good standing, judicial removal or death. If a replacement was being sought, one of those four conditions had to have occurred.

Is the quibble about the use of the word "resignation" when the actual cause was not known? If so, it would fall under the definition of misdirection. Or is the assertion that Ms. McLean never left the position and the search for a replacement was some sort of obfuscation?

HPP Watchdog...watchdogs don't support anyone else but the association and bylaw abiding board. You are not a true watch dog.

Being concerned about the lawsuit and supporting terminated employees and their return are two very different issues. You and Steve1 are also supporting the terminated employees. Let's be clear about that.

I only support the association, and the board members and committees that follow our bylaws. I'm hoping the newest 4 board members and our treasurer will turn things around in getting all the board on track in following our bylaws. 4 new potential law abiding members with other minority members could change the dynamics of this board. Call it foolish optimism but the alternative is giving up to never be seen or heard from again like so many others.

Association members need to bare some responsibility and become informed with our bylaws. There are members who attend board meetings that don't recognize when bylaws are being broken right in front of them or vote uninformed. How can the membership make the board accountable if they're ignorant of our bylaws, don't read the board minutes and/or attend board meetings AND don't speak up? A small minority of members know our bylaws and are informed but they are a small voice for all, therefore easily disregarded. Others have given up.

The question is how do we/can we break this repetitive cycle of good intentions replaced by arrogance? A board can only get away with things when the majority of the association is ignorant, complacent and/or absent. The last board meeting had a very poor turn out even though the agenda stated new board members were being brought in.

Here we go again w/a board not being transparent and hardly any one questions it. i.e. what company on the mainland is revamping our website and how much is this costing us? Who is the volunteer that lives in HPP that's maintaining our website? Who is the road supervisor who's been on a 3 month probation, and how many road crew do we employ now? They're getting rid of committees yet bringing back the redundant fugitive dust committee who've already submitted thorough research last year which is posted on our website w/recommendations. Why didn't the board report that an expensive piece of equipment was stolen recently? How can they approve $90,000 for a piece of equipment "off the cuff" at a board meeting w/only 3 board members present? Which hat was asking for the $, the interim GM or the board member? What happened w/the board taking time to do research before approving this kind of expenditure? Who's on the HR committee and what is the makeup of the HR committee? There's only 1 of the 3 original appointed members on it now. How do we ensure all boards respect hard progressive work others did before them in setting up safety standards and policies for the betterment of HPP instead of going backwards by disregarding the policies and starting from square 1 doing things their way? That's not forward thinking..

When are more owners going to get informed and come forward (in civility) to speak up? These are the first steps in making the board accountable. Otherwise, realize that venting and bickering with our neighbors on Punatalk isn't solving any of our problems. Get informed, know our bylaws, get involved and speak up if you really want to help change things. Rob, a lot of us do get educated on Punatalk, a good thing, so thanks for the venue. [Smile]

“HPP Watchdog...watchdogs don't support anyone else but the association and bylaw abiding board. You are not a true watch dog.”

I disagree with your position regarding a watchdog. A watch dog doesn't take sides but points out what the board is doing, like not posting the opening for District 1 then appointing someone at the next meeting. This is a violation of the bylaws and any vote or matter of attendance is invalid until they post the position.

Moreover, District 3 is open because the new Director has resigned already and the bylaws state that this opening needs to be posted on the website within 2 days of the notice of resignation, it's still not on the website.

“Being concerned about the lawsuit and supporting terminated employees and their return are two very different issues. You and Steve1 are also supporting the terminated employees. Let's be clear about that.”

Let's be clear about one thing, we are only looking for the truth, and let the chips fall where they may!
I do commend you on your other questions that the board must answer, they are a run-a-way train.

After all, Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

I agree with most of your last post Mermaid.
Here's my point of view.................
We attended our LAST meeting with this board. WE were Utterly disgusted with a lack of an agenda, old business not being carried forward ,the attention given to bottled water and stale cookies, membership vote at a special board meeting called to catch up with BUSINESS and NO DELIBERATION what so ever GIVEN by the board members of a 90k purchase... and not one question from any of the membership attending aside from one person. His question was never properly answered.

To donate one's time to help our association is one thing...both of us in this household had submitted emails volunteering to serve on committees prior to this meeting. We got home from that meeting and emailed the Board letting them know we were no longer interested in volunteering.

We will not sit thru another meeting while our bylaws are being so obviously disregarded . for what.....so that we can rescue....or become enablers? I'd rather see receivership.

Yes Janet is correct. The website did clearly state that the District 8 position was "Vacant".

Ironically I saw that after either HawaiiDeb or "mermaid" suggested we look to the minutes to see that the new board had posted some rationalizations for their actions.

What I read sounded like a whining diatribe created after the fact by our newest so called president whateverhernameis, and definitely NOT formatted like any other minutes I have had the pleasure of reading.

Can someone help? I was just on the HPPOA website to look up minutes of Board meetings.

The links to the Motions Logs work, but nothing happens when I click on the Minutes listing.

What am I doing wrong?

Reni,
Now is the time to help! Since receivership isn't possible because of the healthy balance sheet it's time to act as members.

Please don't give up now it's what the board expects you and yours to do.

Wait until you see their next move. I predict that Jo Maynard will be hired as the GM. Think about that plan, the person behind the terminations will replace the GM with herself. The job description for the GM was formed to meet a very, very limited pool of applicants. Who has a BA and road experience? It would make more sense to have a BS and road experience. At the Decembers meeting please ask the board just how many qualified applications they have received for this opening.

Hi everyone. I haven't posted in a while because I didn't like the threatening and accusing tone of the conversations here, but it seems the lines that separate us becoming blurred, and perhaps merging. I hope this is a good sign that we can work together to improve our community.
I am one of the members who gave up and stopped volunteering and attending the meetings because I get the impression that nothing is being done according to the BiLaws and nothing I do or say can make it better.
These are my concerns.
Business is not being done properly. The agendas are a joke. There is no follow through from one meeting to the next.
Nothing is posted accurately or timely as required by the Bilaws. Our website is a joke of old or incorrect news.
Member input is not welcomed. Committee input is not welcomed. Committees are being dissolved left and right if they dissent from the edicts or detract from the power of the BOD. What BOD (but this one) has ever divorced itself from Neighborhood Watch? Road Traffic Safety Committee? These are valuable Committees and an asset to HPP! What is more important than the safety of our roads and community?
Our money was spent on a lawyer to send and Neighborhood Watch and others nasty letters. What's that about? Who approved it? We didn't,but we're sure paying for this vindictiveness.
I too am tired of excuses and whining diatribes. There is no excuse. Do the job right or get the heck off the Board!
What about the new road equipment? Who approved that expenditure? Was that done in Executive Session? Is that a personnel matter?
It's like the Board is going to punish any and everyone who ever disagreed with them while using our money for the lawyers.
Our voices have been replaced by 3 x 5 cards, and my questions are never answered.
I get the impression that everything is being done behind closed doors in Exec. Session where none of us can really know what's happening.
I really wish that president "whateverhernameis" and her VP would resign. We might then get a chance of having a Board that truly represents the community.
I just don't see how it is possible that vp "whateverhernameis" can be on the Board, interim GM, on the HR committee and applying for the GM job. This is clearly a conflict of interest. How can it be called anything else?
All I want is a honest, open BOD that follows the laws and Bilaws. Is that too much to ask? We can't go on like this for another 2 plus years...

Kenny, Mermaid and Reni very good posts. I guess we will have to wait until the Membership meeting in February and get answers to all these questions.
