I see it was too much to ask for a real discussion, without insults, on topic.
Wanted to reply to the few genuine questions, but it's too much of a hot mess now.

Kind of doubt Punatalk was ever that way. Three years ago, it was top heavy with a bunch of crazies. Now, it's just mean folks, the crazies have really declined. Then there are all the outsider trollers which is probably what you think you are experiencing. Nobody ever defined Punatalk having to be Puna specific, and generally Hawaii based topics are preferable. Some people get on way off topics, way too mainland focused, and some like to deliberately derail, that is just another troller tactic. Haven't really seen these natural events like Iselle and the ongoing eruption develop any real community. People get together on different things, then go their separate ways. Things are changing too fast to even get a statistical reference for the population turnover effects.

You should be able to answer your own questions about why you feel the way you do about Punaweb now, since you are from that era when Tiffany Hunt, Damon Tucker, Bob Lackey, Rob Tucker, and you were all the best of buddies, all aloha and everything, years later, nothing but island grudges. Just seems to be a part of life that some people that move here get into. There are plenty of other community events and happenings so that Punatalk is a relatively minor amusement in everyday life.

Ted, How would you know, newbie??? It was that way and I'm with Kathy. I miss it too. A lot of others were having thanksgiving and other punatic parties. I never made it to Pams house or to even the beach events she hosted. I was really busy with my orchidland lots at the time. Now I'm busy with work and school. Go figure! Oh well, it really was good times back then. Don't know why it all changed or how it all changed.... Maybe it's the way it's moderated ... With some that should have been gone long ago. I always thought that Rob was one of the best moderators around. But, sometimes I think things are let go too loosely. But anyway... It is what it is, and it sure as heck isn't what it use to be. Still it's a good place for info and what not, I just think most here a lot more reserved than what was before. Personally, I don't blame em.

However, anonymous identity is a weird thing. I've participated in on-line message boards before the current systems, all the way back when the best program was simply an e-mail relay base..


Peps who'd otherwise in person wouldn't be so mean spirited are abundant when you can't ID em.. you'll get messages which include the things somebody may be thinking, but would never say to your face.. as the game gets deeper they'll claim identity just for the sake of continuing the blabber.

It took me a while to just chill when being attacked, to just embrace the fact there's some lose screws out there, which I wouldn't want to be brought to their level.

Kathy, please just pick one thing from the Trip Advisor thread and defend it. I have read a bunch of these and they don't look good.

Right now, my opinion and gut feeling is your whatever-you-want-to-call-it *** against Tiffany got the best of you and you could not help but post on that. Hence opening yourself back up to the folks here waiting.

Up until this time, (again IMO : ) you were laying low. Tell me if I am wrong.
