Yes all true,go talk to Mitch Roth.

He will tell you and more ,i am only touching on a very few of the new rules.

Ignorance of the law is not an excuse.

It's outrageous. And gives me pause....Seriously considering becoming an ex-pat if this nonsense continues.

Kimo, what about this fact, maybe you have been lucky 1 Actually I guess all of those who share the road with you are lucky.

"Distracted driving is a dangerous epidemic on America's roadways. In 2012 alone, 3,328 were killed in distracted driving crashes."

Yeah. Ha Ha. I guess everyone that passes me in the oncoming lane is in danger.
Even though I haven't been at fault in an accident in 40 years. and yes I'm that old.
I can drive a stick while eating a sandwich and answer a phone call no problem.

Considering how most drive here normally without distraction ! Most can't keep it between the lines on a good day.
Shame on you for doing it. Then getting caught and complaining about it. Whine to someone who hasn't lost a friend for the very same reasons.!!!! No one is not distracted! No one can actually multitask ! The brain is not wired that way. Its akin to saying "I can drive just fine" after a few shots! Pathetic!!!

Or kimo w - drive an older well maintained pre 1982 legal ride and do not use cell while in your ride.We have a 1978 lifted dodge 4x4 and no computers at all.Had it since brand new, still in top shape .
Never gonna sell her,she has over 800,000 Big Island miles on her.

OR if only for emergency use ONLY,get the free 911 cell phone and the police Dept will give you one FREE.

One part of this cell phone use rule is pull over on shoulder, with flashers on,turn off ignition and then you can legally talk on cell phone while in your ride.

If you are in a semi and or dump truck,no need seat belt and can legally talk on cell phone,so you can buy a kenworth semi and be legal and that is your legal defense .
The weight tax alone though will have you bankrupt in no time.

I don't disagree with the law. Just the fine for 1st offense. It's way too much.
The fine for running a stop sign or traffic light is $97. Imo that's more dangerous.

You can buy a plug in earbud with microphone for $5, or a Bluetooth headset for $20, and legally talk on your phone while driving

I know. And I will from now on. Though I think I'll be distracted trying to get used to it more than the way I've become accustomed to. The Old School way.
I guess all those years I drove and talked on the phone before it was banned was O.K. But now I must assimilate with the masses who started talking on cell phones before they were old enough to drive.

I can't tell you how many times someone is behind me on the Keaau crawl texting and I cringe every time as I am almost slowly rear ended about 5 times. I now pull over and let them pass and get behind them.

In addition, although less frequent but frequent enough, i see someone cross the double yellow on the road and sure enough, their head is down to their phone more than on the road.

Lock em up as far as I'm concerned. One accident is too many for that senseless act and nobody cares until their family member is hit head on, then it gets personal.

By the way, there have been medical studies that prove the EXACT same brainwave is used to drive as it is to talk on a cell phone. It is a human impossibility to do both because the act occupies the same brain wave function. All a human being can do is transfer between driving and functioning on the phone. That's just talking, texting is a whole other offense.

And before you call that BS, just realize that yes you can drive and talk, but medically speaking, your brain can only go back and forth between those acts. Cannot do both. The fact we have become accustomed to doing both doesn't change the science.
