Brushfire at Pohiki
#1
Looks to be in the triangle between the bypass, the dock side and the old road.

137 and Pohiki Rd closed 1/2 mi each direction.

Helio doing water drops.

went down there to dive today and got there before they closed the road. Lots of smoke and fire. burnt right up to the back side of the bathrooms. Looked like it could have easily jumped the road but the got it under control and almost completely our by the time we left to come home about 2:30.....

I saw that too. Stunning ignorance.

Edited. Now the lava flow is a "possible cause".

"No injuries have been reported. The Puna lava flow is the possible cause of the fire but has not yet been confirmed."

I drove by yesterday and I thought it looked a little...empty by the crossroads. Any word on how it actually started? Someone in the comments on FB says that someone threw their BBQ coals into the bush: https://www.facebook.com/HawaiiNewsNow/p...3752205479
