"All roads are 40ft wide ... accounted for under tax key 1-6-13-81"
http://qpublic9.qpublic.net/qpmap4/map.php?county=hi_hawaii&parcel=160130810000&extent=-17277391+2194450+-17242591+2241914&layers=parcels+bstreets+parcel_sales+streetnum
seeks that the homeowners do as much as they can to keep the numbered roads passable
I'm going to maintain whatever roads I need to use, numbered or otherwise. If HARC or HACA wants to do the work instead, I'm more than happy to step aside.
But they're not.

. still looking for the amended map by the county for the roads . i agree it shows a trust making the purchase of a large sum of land which appears to be roads , but what a mess as our deeds show we all have an interest in the roads. ??

County insists the roads are private, so I take their posture at face value.
There are some places where surveyors have visited lots on both sides of the road; the facing lots are exactly 40' apart, which matches the plat.
As to the fractional interest: its validity is questionable on its face, as noted in the 1962 HACA newsletter.

welcome barry. so glad you went to the office to make your inquiries. there are people on this site that take a warped pleasure in misrepresenting this neighborhood. this is a wonderful place to live, filled with wonderful people. we are not plagued by addicts and criminals, our streets are not littered with needles and dead bodies. our associations are not run by criminals. but by well meaning people. There are new board members in both the associations who are determined to re-establish open, friendly, participation. your help (and all those others who live here and complain about it) is desperately needed
- so to that end there is a work party at the center at 8-9 hawaiian time to do repairs and maintenance to the fire house in line with the permits. if you are not doing anything special today we would love to see you there. if not much aloha for your Saturday.

the reality is : would be a good idea to fence your property and own a dog or two that would do their best to bark and keep out any would be intruders . we are just like any place else and if its accessible not nailed down ,it could come up missing .a year or so ago, one of our residents on road 10 was murdered in his home while being robbed . there is a new association board in place and we shall see as time goes on how well they do. same with the road board . stay in the real world its not all "wonderful" that only happens in the land of OZ.
hi birchl ,,,, nice to hear from you and hear your positive views of Hawaiian acres,, my new home and paradise,, im still soooo excited to be here ! huge difference already compared to the traffic and life in Honolulu !
you know iv been reading this forum since the lady at the office turned me on to it ,,, it has prompted me to very often chuckle ,, sometimes ( not having the history of this forum to go on, ) be bewildered ,, and sometimes scratching my head and muttering WTF to myself and calling my wife to see some of the posts here,, then its two people scratching my head and muttering WTF !
I took it upon my self to ask a few of the guys if the stories ,,,, that the parks and byways ,, in the area were awash with drug needles and baggies and such filth as has been stated here ,, and although that's not my area of expertise I got the same comments from guys that do work in this area ,,, that although there is drug use here as anywhere else ,, they don't see the epidemic that was here in the past ,, and that they couldn't remember being called to the local parks or the byways in Hawaiian acres for drug needles and baggies littering the road ,, a sure sign of a local distributer ! apparently the real disturbing thing they find at the parks are random used diapers and empty alcohol containers prompting the joke I heard from three of the guys ,,, wondering if the babies were drinking to much beer !
as for burglaries and murders their take was that our rate was much lower the other areas and that of course no place is immune to such. they pointed out that there is so many vacant lots here ,,, over grown byways and homes set far back off the roads that it does promote more thievery ,, and that to combat this a stronger neighborhood watch presence ,,and cleaner roads with a view of the home would deter much of the petty thieving in our area.
the murders in our area are few and far between ,, noting that the Gillman murder had been successfully prosecuted ,, and although tragic,, that on a county wide view ,, the acres area was as safe as most.
I have a registered firearm for protecting myself and family ,, and within reason my property ,,and I also brought my video surveillance system ( 6 cameras ) with me from Oahu ! I placed them in plain view and never had any problems ,, ( although I did see hypodermic needles in the stairwells of the parking garage downtown which was also under surveillance .
and last but not least ,, I was told that the ( criminals and junkies that run the associations ) were a Disney land mixed with a soap opera ant that it was always hilarious the things they were called for in the area ,, the unofficial name of the two acres subdivisions is apperantly ( AS THE FERN TURNS ) or ( the acres of our lives ) !!!!

barry yes this does beat life on the congested isle of Oahu . never heard of as the "fern turns" , could be so. a view of the home not always a good idea , its also a view to the thieves , that way they can case the place from the road and figure out how to approach . just my opinion . before we fenced and got the dog we had some items stolen . we use to have a really nice frontage until a new neighbor moved in and decided it was his new roadway . he made it a point to drive over the nice grass and flowers tearing it up even though he could have driven on the rock road , it was simply spiteful , kept it up to the point where were concerned he may damage our fence .

It's happened before; previous thread includes speculation as to who is responsible for putting them back up, as the lower rock may or may not be "in a County road".

On our road, neighbors have prevented this kind of thing with strategic placement of large rocks in the manicured section.
