A small pickup truck drove by our house and stopped on the road just at the end of our property between two vacant lots (one was ours). I went out to "see how they were doing" and it was a couple in their early 20's. As I approached their truck the female was snorting a white powder up her nose. They didn't know I was approaching and just about ejected from their seats when I asked "IS EVERYTHING OKAY!?". Their story was that their truck broke down. Right there. Almost in front of my house. When I saw them drive by slowly and stop there. "No problem, I can give you a jump." I offered. Then their story was that their friend was already on their way and would be "mad" if they weren't there to receive the help. I interpreted this scenario to be that the young couple was either buying or selling drugs and they thought a random road up in Orchidland was the place to do it. I don't care what people do in their own homes but I do care what they do right in front of my house. I told them that I would be watching them closely in case their friend didn't show up, so that I could help them get on their way. They left after a few minutes and I never saw them again.
I feel like if I didn't engage in the way I did, our street may have been the new "hookup location". Get to know your neighbors, recognize strangers, and send a message of community. And dogs. Douche bags don't like a bunch of barking to announce their arrival.

Don't need barking dogs, neighborhood watch is what it's all about.
That's what you did and that's what we all need to do.

Karma,
The quoted segment of an email in my original post was actually from an email sent to PAKA watch and PAKA patrol. Apologies, I probably should have mentioned that. The neighbour who sent the email is actually part of the PAKA watch and patrol, so they most definitely are aware of the incident. Ever since we had a real problem neighbour two or three years ago, the other neighbours and I have become a pretty close-knit group who watch out for each other and have a warning system in effect, so good things do come from bad situations.

TomK,
You should attend.a PAKA meeting sometime. I try to go every month. Good way to get to know your neighbors and find out what's going on around Kaloli Pt.

Eight - I've been trying to attend a meeting for the last few months, but my own weird schedule just hasn't allowed it. I'll get to one soon, and if you know Jan who's a member and helps out at those meetings, please say hello! She's a wonderful neighbour.

Terracore, I love the way you handled your recent encounter on your road.
You tell a good story, and I agree with your concerns. You've truly perfected my "routine" when similar incidences arise in front of our house.

Okihikabob,
"Peter, just for the record ~ I never said aliens scanned him, just that he was scanned,it was probably a drone run by the SSG." Who are you referring to when you wrote "he"?
