Hawaiian Acres Issues
#81

I know Sad It seems like such a simple issue. The traffic division actually has an online form for potholes now.. which is awesome. And anyone can use that form. Amber sent in a request for many potholes along 8 Rd and they were filled within one or two days. I did try to get a sign through their online request forms as a test, but it hasn't appeared yet (and I haven't been contacted).

Did you all ever get a traffic study conducted? What was the process? Try as we might, getting a study and the results has proven kind of difficult. DPW won't even give us the results of a traffic count they conducted a few weeks ago on 8 Rd. It's demoralizing to keep running into brick walls when all you really want to do is get things done quickly and efficiently.

PEAR is ... Unique, and requiring different interpretations of county road standards.

Completely consistent with County "spot zoning" and "spot enforcement".

DPW won't even give us the results of a traffic count they conducted

Exactly. We only pay for their salaries and equipment, why should we be entiteld to the results of that investment?

Agreed (if you were being sarcastic!!)! We are entitled to the results! Persistence in requesting (not harrassment) will help! I do fear that certain individuals from our community may have "squawked/pestered/harrased" our county reps and police to the point the rest of us in HA can't be heard. This will take time to repair.

yes ,( CERTIAN INDIVIDUALS ) , you are exactly right ,, these same county and local officials duck or cringe when one of the Hawaiian acres trolls comes calling or to the window ,, even the police are sick and tired of the sock puppets and false calls ,, made up claims ,,, and they laugh and joke amongst themselves about the castaways and goofballs we have here ,,,

so of course we are all brought down to the level that these few clowns force the people who could help , into not helping and hiding from us .

Agreed (if you were being sarcastic!!)!

Far less sarcasm than disgust.

Notice how County (and State) keep "clarifying" the "rules" that apply to a "privately owned road (open to the public)"? Current bill from Illagan proposes that the Chief of Police be given authority over "neighborhood watch" sign placement on private roads -- that's right, you pay for the road, you pay for the signs, but the installation won't be up to you who pay.

The roads need to be made either fully public or fully private. This "spot" crap has gone on too long. On the plus side, it does keep development at bay, and perhaps this is the intent.

list woes; if you have not received a ballot by now please contact the office. it appears possible that people who have paid directly on-line have by-passed the system. this only applies to a very few and i do not know if that is what has actually happened. we are looking into it. certainly we have no intention of leaving anybody 'off'. Smile the list of property owners that is provided by the county is not in any sort of order. it pretends to be alphabetical but half the last names are first and half the first names are first. the payments made often match up to neither name. there are people who do not give their addresses, or those that they have given are out of date. we are updating our data systems and hopefully this will be the last time this office has such a problem with such a seemingly easy task. the previous board received an equal amount of grief over 'the list' and at the time i too failed to understand the problem! so patience please and contact us directly Smile thank you and aloha

Thanks for this info! I knew that arguments over the membership list last year were all about mistrust, not actual functioning. Sometimes the only way to understand how something works is to try and do it. Now we can see what some of the list issues are, and instead of laying blame, a system that is broken will be fixed! Mahalo!

Personally I like to see the public & private work together. The public, ie taxpayer, does not have the funds to fulfill alot of projects. Combining resources is one answer. I feel the Acres can lead with this attitude. Making government work for & with us, since they allowed the sub-standard subdivisions to be developed in the first place, is one way to get our share of tax dollars. IMHO!
