I have been monitoring site in Philippines where I used tiny amount of Fipornil. No new fire ants, however non-biting ants have moved into same area.
This strrsses need to bait very small and remove bait in 24 hrs.
Othetwise they would more easily come back.

I've had great results with Tango. First bought it over a year ago. No fire ants after about 3 months. I spread Amdro at the same time around the house and in the driveway, with Tango used where plants are growing. I only have 1/2 an acre but I try to spray all the lots around mine too. Had a few show up after a 4-5 month lapse in treatment. Now I do it every 3 months or so and they've been gone for 7 months at this point.

PROVAUNT AND SIESTA FOR THE WIN!
The LFA were all over the Siesta, a much better bait than Amdro, Extinguish, or Firestrike. Within a day they were GONE. So that took care of the ants on the ground, what about the trees? I pulled some palm fronds off four trees that were previously heavily infested. The LFA love to nest between the fronds and the tree. NOT A SINGLE LFA TO BE SEEN. There were other bugs in there, so the Provaunt seems a fairly targeted insecticide when used in the gel bait. In contrast at the rear of our property where I didn't treat, I got 4 or 5 LFA stings harvesting a jack fruit. I'm going to spread the Provaunt and Seista of death there next.
Now that I have seemed to found the holy grail for LFA control, my next problem is the delivery system. I'm not having any luck with the Zep sprayers. I've gone through over a half dozen of them. I stopped buying them online thinking maybe I was getting knock offs but the locals ones aren't any better. I'm lucky if it sprays one bottle's worth before it konks out. The last one I got maybe 2/3 the bottle used before it died. I tried using a super soaker and it worked great for 4 or 5 squirts and then it never worked again.

I'm having the same problem with the sprayer. I'm thinking of dipping a chopstick in the gel bait and sticking it up in the tree. What do you think?

What about a pump sprayer? Try a 12 dollar one without the nozzle tip, but after each use, you'd have to disassemble the entire thing and soak the hose and trigger or run something through it to clear out all the gel.
How do you clear out your zep spray bottles? What do you run though it after use? Maybe bleach? Have it sit inside the sprayer for 5 minutes then run some of it again and again and let it set for another 5 minutes.

For those who don't want to do the spraying themselves I can highly recommend Puna Paul.
We had him spray for us 3 months ago and we went from having fire ants everywhere (including in the house)
to having them nowhere on the property. They still haven't returned. It was about $120 for half an acre, well worth it.
You can reach him at Puna Paul 3 at g mail. Be patient, he's very busy. I don't know exactly what he uses,
I only know it works. I heard about him through a neighbor.
If only someone would do the same for coquis!

I don't usually have to clear out the Zep sprayers because they usually die before its time to refill. The one that worked like a champion I cleared it out with water. On it's 2nd run it made it about half way through the bottle before it died. I tried rehabilitating the dead ones by running water through. It does clear out the gel but the water squirts out just as pathetically as the gel did before the sprayer died.
I thought about a pump sprayer but the ones I've used in the past don't squirt very far. I need a good 25' range or better to treat the taller trees. When I say my Zep sprayer "dies" I mean it is still pumping stuff out but much less volume and shooting out only 20-30 inches instead of the 20-30 feet it did when new. But thanks for the suggestion I will try removing the nozzle tip from a pump sprayer and doing a test spray with water. I have a few laying around to experiment with.
I emailed the ant lab for sprayer ideas but haven't heard back yet.
While I'm thinking about it one thing I noticed is that the Provaunt didn't seem effective when used on the ground. Many of the ground areas where I sprayed Provaunt but didn't use Siesta still have LFA.

Terracore,
Do you know what the active ingredient in Provaunt is?
I'm curious if it's the same as Avaunt - indoxacarb.
Thanks

It is.
They make a fire ant bait with indoxacarb, however the Hawaii Ant Lab rated it low for having mixed results.
ETA: Also, I don't know the difference between Avaunt and Provaunt. Maybe just different manufacturers? They are both labeled at 30% indoxacarb. Maybe its the format. Provaunt is a dry powder that must be mixed/diluted with water etc before use. I don't know if Avaunt is a liquid or solid.
Also need to add, indoxacarb is only labeled for ornamentals, not for use on food crops. The gel bait recipe is here:

I know quite a few farmers that use it around 'not ornamentals'
Nice to know though.
I have also heard it has great results but don't have a LFA problem myself so I've never personally seen the results.
I am also curious if anyone has had positive results using neem oil for LFA control.
