What a great idea for a fundraiser. I want two. I think Rustoleum has spray paint in Plum and that's my first choice. Second choice is Cobalt Blue.

I see Carl K. and Nancy K. all the time, so I can give them the money whenever my chairs are ready. Please advise.

Picked up my plum chairs this morning. They look great! The color really works. I was even given the almost empty cans in case I need to do some touch-ups.

There is a story behind these chairs: They belonged to the Hilo Hawaiian for 20 years. Although they were undamaged, the hotel was preparing to throw them away. But up stepped the staunch recyclers and said "just a minute there - we can give these chairs new life and benefit the Boys and Girls Club",and so it is.

This is a real win-win-win-win: (1)the chairs are not in the landfill, (2)they are gracing my garden, (3)they are benefiting youth programs (4)they are local history preserved. Can it get any better that that?

Mahalo to the Puna Lions for their vision and their positive energy.

Thank you for all the support! I think the majority of sales have come from generous Punawebbers.

We still have 25 chairs left, ready to be painted any color you desire;

So far this fundraiser has allowed us to purchase a Foosball table, several basketballs, toys, games, art supplies, and a Wii console for the Pahoa Boys and Girls Club and there's more on their wishlist we love to get them.

how wide are the seats? What do you think the weight limit might be on these things? Gotta be better then the plastic throw away chairs that seem to break after a few years (if your lucky)...

Aloha Ericlp,

Seat height 15.5"
Back height 28"
Width 20.5"
Depth 23.5"
Weight 8 lbs

I do not know the weight limit but I can tell you that Hotels buy these chairs because they cannot afford the liability of failure. We had 2 people crash down to the ground after the cheap plastic chairs failed during a party and the chairs were only a couple of years old and did not show any outward sign of deterioration. Lucky for us no one got seriously hurt. Hence the search for a chair that can withstand the elements here in East Hawaii. If you like I am willing to show you one. The club has them in Pahoa and Mountain View. Thank you!
