I'm hoping to build on our land in Puna, but with permits, etc., taking forever, and trouble finding contractors/builders who aren't backed up for many months, I'm considering getting a yurt to live in until I can get everything lined up. Anyone have any experience with yurts? I know "camping" on your land is not legal, and that if the yurt has a "permanent" base and is over 6' in diameter, they can make you take it down. If anyone wants to contact me privately, my e-mail is moon_over_hawaii@yahoo.com. Thanks for any info.

Learn something new all the time on this forum!! Never heard of Yurts before, pretty cool, if you do get one love to hear about permits, cost, legal issues etc…

i've never lived in one but my neighbor did for quite a few years, i thought camping on your propety while you build a house was now legal, i see it everywhere in our subdivision, and who would make you leave anyway? the county hardly enforces anything in puna. there a mobile home for sale in the paper currently for $5900. sounds like the way to go to me , good luck!
