If they can't respect the land, then how can they respect a mountain? Seems to me the real agenda is hidden here.
It's less about the aina and more about power/control/money.
Just look at the "protectors" are they up there actually doing anything to help protect the mountain? All they seem to be doing is sitting around, putting rocks in the roadway, basically doing anything but protecting the moutain.
It would be the ultimate irony if the people arrested, were convicted and sentenced to community service actually doing something helpful on Mauna Kea, like picking up litter or replanting native species.

I've given up with gypsy. He only asks questions, many of which have been answered, but never answers direct questions.
I've noticed that too Tom. Perhaps he uses a text generator for his posts to save valuable time, and substitutes a few key words to provide a little variety, "golf course" "restaurant" "decommissioned telescope school."
The text generator probably can't read and accurately respond to questions, so we'll just have to wait for the next randomly posted dispatch:
A historical change and or movement is happening right now at the summit, many are truly feeling an important human Awakening. These very assumptive telescope scientists, engineers, and donors that work for these government funded projects are who has helped make these not yet fully recognized and wonderful discoveries of the human spirit again, jmo, such as a Hawaiian Teleport Facility between Mauna Kea and Goldilocks Zone Planet Gliese 581g Resort, Golf Course, and Casino.

I want a large scientific community here. We need TMT, we need related scientific efforts here, the spinoffs for quality of life, social and economic health are incalculable for all of our population.
I feel the same way about utilizing all our local energy sources, solar, wind, geothermal and biomass. Many good things would follow if we move forward on all these projects consistently with a long term view to benefit all of us here.
I agree with Chunkster@ 6/26, 21:27:22. Most ire and fire should be aimed at the very corrupt and self-serving OHA and DHHL. They are not serving their mandated constituencies well if at all. I think we all need to educate ourselves about OHA and vote with knowledge about those candidates running for OHA offices and see if we can thereby improve OHA performance in carrying out their mandated responsibilities.

I agree with what you are saying P by C, but I am curious as to what U of H and other colleges are doing in their Mechanical Engineering Departments to promote such education and research utilizing local talent that show effort in furthering their personal life. Could be a lot of creative thought and technology come forth, and perhaps a few local "cottage industry" opportunities?

Interesting thought - would certainly explain a lot. Someone having fun with a Turing test, maybe? Maybe these posts will be the subject of research project...

Which means any of us who responded to him more than once have failed, and gypsy has succeeded with flying colors. Puts an interesting twist on the situation, doesn't it?

I doubt it, the way I see it, having a debate with the protectors is like having a debate about the bible or a religious person. They start to just make stuff up and twist it a million ways in hopes the other side will be confused and just end the debate. I don't know about you, but arguing about religion is like watching paint dry. I avoid it at all costs.

mainly yanking chains and pushing buttons, that was my call.
i just look at it as a free-association background performance. sometimes i catch a line that actually has an interesting abstract appeal to it.

Tink:
Perhaps they must leave Hawaii?
Or how many engineering graduates do we turn out here really?
A business that makes or grows things has a hard time in Hawaii.
The local market is small and geographically fragmented, and is
2500 or mores miles away from the nearest large markets.
Just thinking that only dire necessity or desperation might overcome that.

I was referencing the campus in Honolulu for the Mechanical Engineering Program they have there, and what opportunities in scholarships, etc. are available for a local to get their degree in that field, which encompasses all the new technology in solar, wind, wave generation etc.
It is time the islands make a mark in the world using this "new" technology that is readily available to learn from using existing knowledge wit the test bed here creating jobs building wind generators, photovoltaic systems and maybe break through with wave generation technology.
We also have the prime shipping spot to intercept offshore existing parts inventory to build, then ship on to the mainland, or the other direction.
As far as TMT and other telescopes throughout the world, I believe this type of degree would also apply in designing the darn things, as well as maintaining an intricate mechanical device such as a telescope. Again, local talent making a mark in the outside world.
