We swung by Lucy's Tacqueria to get a quick bite before the Palace show yesterday around 5 pm. The place was closed (on a Friday nite?), dark, none of the usual window or interior lights on. A police cruiser was parked in the lot sideways, preventing anyone from parking in front of or near there. I think the Subway was open, definitely the laundromat. Anyone privy to what's up there? With the police presence, seems to indicate something not so good perhaps.

Well, that's great news. A well deserved break!
The police thing was a bit strange however.

Is this because you don't live in South Puna?

My favorite dish at Lucy's is the Taqueria Taco's with Al Pastor meat, along with a Prickly Pear Marguerite. Yum!

Friday night in Hilo and a HPD cruiser was using the parking spaces at a closed business to monitor the scene.
Nothing strange at all.

yes very true the bums/derelicts are a growing problem in hilo and the churches contribute to the problem . it is disgusting to see them laying around in the park with their shopping carts and rolling houses of crap , trash left behind on the ground bushes are their bathroom , some areas smell horrible. daily , daily the cops are called to kapiolani or Lincoln park to handle an incident involving druggies or derelicts. and at night the problem is way bigger , they use business store fronts for toilets , and placing to drink and use drugs . it is a problem

A few years ago I was parked in the shade of a large Hilo banyan tree. Nearby a man with an old cargo van was unloading boxes of bottles, and what looked like the kind of things you see thrown into the refuse containers at the transfer station, old clothes, blankets, etc. When the van was empty he drove off leaving a huge pile of "junk" behind. There was another man parked nearby and I asked whether he had noticed the guys license plate number so we could call the police to report the illegal dumping. He said "no, don't call the cops, that's my friend and he asked me to stay here to watch his stuff." Sure enough, a half hour later the old cargo van returned, and the owner loaded all his worldly possessions back inside.

I thought that was only in Hawaiian Acres, at the Community Center.
